@jonnyboy: How long have you had the rifle, and where did you get it?

Inaccuracy in spring airguns can arise from several areas.
- Excess velocity. This causes not only more spring vibration, but transonic problems.
- Poorly greased mainspring. The spring will vibrate wildly throwing aim.
- Dirty barrel. Common sense this one.
- Dieseling in the compression chamber. This is an inconsistency, and when combined with the natural "kick" of a springer, can cause the pellet to leave the barrel at a subtly different time and thus send it off on the wrong trajectory.
- Pellet choice. Some rifles just hate certain brands of pellets.
- Parallax error. This comes from a difference between the actual range and the "projected range" of the crosshairs, which causes the apparent position crosshair to move with inconsistency in the shooter's eye position.
- Poor hold, but you've said you're being careful about this.
- The shooter flinching. No offence intended, but some people will flinch when firing a spring airgun.
- Rifle cant. Like some of the others, this is not unique to springers, but not keeping the rifle consistently vertical will cause POI changes between shots.

Alright thanks for the help rag the gun isn't dieseling I've heard it before so I know what it sounds like. For extra measures I had cleaned the barrel a couple days ago. The gun is newish so that's a no on the mainspring problem. I got it brand new and there have been about 300 shots through it.

I think perhaps it could be the cant or maybe a parallax inconsistency. While I do try to be careful while holding the gun I never really paid attention to eye position. Although I assume it would be the same each shoot as I make sure the reticule is clear and crisp before I shoot.

Could the rifle cant throw off a shot by six inches? Because my grouping is about six inches at twenty yards. As I said before I'm not a horrible shot I could hit a quarter at twenty yards with my old pump rifle.

Right, first things first, I need to look up how big a quarter is...
... okay, little bit less than an inch.

A six inch group at 20 yards is insane. That's not any problem of normal magnitude.
Cant is usually fairly minor at those ranges. It might throw off the shot by a few fractions of an inch if it was rather heavily off vertical, but not by whole inches at that range.
Parallax can't be that major either. Again, it's a few fractions of an inch problem, unless your view through the scope is insanely out of focus.

There are only a few things that could cause a problem that big.
- An ill-fitted/greased mainspring, so if it's been bad since the start, then you might have to assume it was put together wrong at the factory.
- Issues with the rifling. If the pellets and the rifling disagree (so to speak), then it could cause flight errors this serious.
- A poor muzzle crown.
- Shooter error.
- An unlikely combination of small elements.
- You're loading it with gravel.

Alright thanks rag, I'll try some new pellets and see if I can grease the spring.

ITWOST: Just got back from a weekend trip on my motorcycle.
It's a full size Harley softtail with almost as much chrome as it can have.
I call it my "Thunderhorse" :P
But like the saying goes,"Chrome don't get you down the road"...
I've had lots of little problems getting it back on the road after being stored so long. On my trip lots of bolts rattled loose, so I put loctite on them.
(One more Effin' learning experience) :P
For what it is, It's a pretty awesome cruiser with a soul.
My plan is to buy another gas tank and fenders, polish the heck out of them and then gun blue them, and have a layer of clearcoat sprayed on top.
Never seen one like that before. 8)

BTW, if you ever see a harley cylinder, sure looks like a nice big hybrid chamber(???) a little Heavy though.

I stopped by my friends place who offered to give me pipes that were laying around last year.
Noticed a 4" diameter rigid conduit pipe and thought of a crappy version of moonbogg's hybrid right away (of course).
Sure would be nice...
Well I am beat and got to go for now...I need to find a new job somehow. :( Later spuddybuddies! :) 8)

EDIT:Thunderhorse vid (probably the only song I'd cosider karaoke to)!!!
Thinking of adding speakers to my bike to play this one when I press a button.
I cut my hair very short because it was too hot, I like it short now. 8)

Alright guys I've been away for three weeks with no internet connection or time to look so what's ? Any word from Mr.Crowley or DYI? Anything I should be aware of? BTW one of the marinas we docked at had an awesome little boat store that sold cam locks for connecting hoses and pump out lines. Crappy cell phone pics to follow in a while.

Besides that, I have updated the barrel book. You fellas should check it out. Try to point out any typos and misinformation to me so I can get it fixed as soon as possible.

In the chapter on barrel crowning, you could add for PVC, heating the end and pressing it on a funnel or bottle. One of my tennis ball barrels was formed this way to make it easy to stuff in t shirts without it catching on the edge.

For a full resolution copy, catch me in chat and i'll send it to you for your book with permission to reproduce.

There's actually 7 of them, but one is currently bolted into something else.

Current plan is that 5 of the remaining ones are going to be put together to become a bulk tank. With the use of my mini-booster, I figure I could probably get 50 shots out of a fill, which is decent enough for the cannon in question.

What happens to the final cylinder is still up for debate. If I could get the main valve out of the top, I'd consider using it as a high pressure chamber, but attempts have proven entirely futile.
