If it's SCH-40, you can try ping pong balls.

Do not look back, and grieve over the past, for it is gone;
Do not be troubled about the future, for it has not yet come;
Live life in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering.

How well do ping pong balls fit? I just built a cannon with a 1.5 inch barrel.

They fit about within a millimeter, maybe better. There are 2 sizes though. I think the new ones are bigger and fit better. Bottom line, they fit either way, and very well.

Why don't you try sand like Lentamentalisk suggested? Use your imagination...experiment with different ones. Too much mass will drag you down, not enough won't go far either. It really need to match the power capabilities if your specific cannon.

@Lentamentalisk: Thanks for the cat tennis ball link. Those look great!
