okay, thanks. it was just a spur of the moment thing, and I just have a pnumatic cannon. I wont recomend that to anybody.but,on mythbusters, they did cause an explosion from gas fumes in a shop-vac using the exact same principal

Shrimpbrain: I know, I know. But still I think it'd be cool to do a proper remote. If it turns out to be too expensive I'll wire them like you suggested. Can someone give me plans to make an ignition? I'm not so flash at electronics myself but I'm sure I can find a friend that is. Thanks!

schmanman, don't take my word as law. I'm knolagable, sure, but that doesn't mean I'm always right... it's important for the sake of logical discussion to yell at me when I say something that's been shown to be false.

Hey yall.
I just had a thought. I've heard about spark strips being used in potato cannons and after a talk with a friend came up with the idea that I could have two spark strips set up the sides of the hot water cylinder and link them both to an ignition coil to up the voltage a bit. This way I should be able to hook both strips up to the same battery and have even and reliable sparks throughout the chamber. Does this sound like it could work and well?
Cheers!

bugmenot wrote:They all sound good. The next question is: Which would be the most reliable and cheapest? Also would the fact that the hot water cylinder is metal affect any of this? Lastly which would be the easiest to hook up to a remote? Thanks for your help.

in fact this will make it easier since you can use the metal body as a ground source for DC voltage (think spark plugs, they ground themselves to the engine block via the threaded piece)

i ship mine as "ignition systems" in a discreet box for gas operated RC cars, works every time for people who live in places where stunguns are illegal
A stungun circuit is only illegal if its placed in its hand held enclosure (which makes it a weapon instead of an "igniton system")

bummer on the intestinal flu man... never had it but it doesn't sound fun

If you still are looking for an ignition box I would be more than happy to make you one with a stun gun circuit in it and with a nice red button. Just email me about it if you are interested. :D

Oh, and Schmanman, stop with the red text. It's annoying. I'd know because my trademard was always using lime green text then I got bitched at like all at once because of the annoyance.

Any chance you know how to do a remote? Like cannibalise a RC car? What would it cost and would you mind shipping to New Zealand? Otherwise thanks sounds great.
Just a few more questions for the experts.
With a tank of this side where will be the best point of ignition? Would it really matter? I was thinking that having a central spark at the bottom would make the most effective explosion but I'm no rocket scientist.
Also does anyone know a strong way to mount metal to plastic? Cheers All.

probably uses AC power (plugs into a wall receptacle) doesnt make it very portable

Yea I don't think it'll end up being very portable and I hope it'll stay on the farm (We'd probably get arrested otherwise).
The Van der Graf sounds kinda cool but they're quite big aren't they? And come to think about it, where the hell am I going to get one of them? Thanks anyway

I actually haven't done a Radio Controlled ignition before though I do know how to. It would be much more expensive to do but if you are willing to spend the money on the parts and such I am willing to build and ship it.

To make it RC it will cost about $30-40 dollars more because I'd have to order a remote car controller. (Think real car locks) I know where to get one for about $20-25 then I'll need to find a relay as well.
