Answers needed. Small pneumatic spudgun

Unread postAuthor: spudato » Mon Apr 10, 2006 9:57 am

Im new to all this but very interested. I would like to make a pneumatic spud gun.I want to make a small one,about 700mm long. I want it to fire proportions of potato and plasticine. I want to run fairly low pressure as it will be used indoors.I want to make it like a replica rifle. Has anything like this been made? What sort of valve would I use and what other materiels would be needed?? Any help would be much appreciated.

Why don't you start with a combustion?

I really want a pneumatic. I dont live in a location allowing me to fire a combustion. I understand the basics on how they all work but I have not seen anything that looks similar to what I want to make.

This one guy made the most realistic pneumatic spudgun that actually has a functoning bolt and shells. You could probably adapt this to higher pressure. http://www.boltsniper.com

Read <a href="http://www.spudfiles.com/spud_wiki/index.php?title=Pneumatic_cannon">THIS</a> and it will help you out alot.

As listed in the article, the following are needed in a basic pneumatic:
* Compressed gas storage reservoir (chamber for short)
* Filling valve (bicycle Schrader valves, quick disconnects, etc.)
* Firing valve (ball valves, sprinkler valves, piston valves, quick-exhaust valves, and burst disks are the most common)
* Barrel
* Pressure gauge (for safety & repeatable launches)

After you understand all of these, you should be able to build your sniper design around them. Go around and take peeks at others' snipers, and take the things you like from each of them. When Im in search of a new cannon design, I simply start looking at others cannons. You will be suprised how much you learn/ take from others' cannons.

Although, you might be looking to be spoon feed, I wont do it. Ill give you all necessary info to help you find your solution, but im not going to give you your solution. For many reasons, which I dont feel like listing...

Tht very helpful. The most appealing bit in all that is the quick exhaust valves. It sounds like it would suit my application. Have you ever had anything to do with them??
