BSP and BSW threads.

Unread postAuthor: psycix » Thu Apr 09, 2009 7:15 am

I am about to buy a tap and die set. Very useful since I can machine stuff.
As I live in europe pipe threads are not NPT, but BSP. I found a cheap set with decent quality, but the threads are BSW and not BSP.

BSP is a form of BSW thread, but now I want to know:
Is BSPP (BSP parralel) exactly the same as BSW?

This is the tap and die set I am about to buy:Clicky

BSP is British standard pipe.
BSPP is British standard pipe parallel (thread is parallel)).
BSPT is British standard pipe taper (thread is tapered)

for the smaller thread sizes (like 1/4") it doesn't matter too much if you mix BSP and BSPT, but above that you start to get problems.

BSW is British standard whitworth which is a screw/bolt thread, not a pipe thread.

here are the dimensions if you want to check if its the same as BSPP

Hope that helps.
