Any need for custom cnc milled parts?

Unread postAuthor: gismo » Thu Jun 04, 2009 9:24 pm

Hello fellow spudders..I've been a long time canon builder. I particularly enjoy pneumatic types and custom valves.. Anyway, I've now got the capability to CNC machine parts. I've got a pretty big and powerful machine, but would like to start with small stuff at first. I can work from simple napkin sketches to 3d cad files. I can even offer a little design assistance. I can machine almost any material: plastics, aluminum, steel, stainless, some exotics..

I don't have a lathe, so I'm limited with long round parts. I think my pricing will be pretty fair.

I can provide more information as needed and pictures of sample parts as well. If anyone is interested or if I made this post in the wrong forum please let me know.

Thanks

Could you machine an aluminum barel support and a propane map gas tank holder that like attaches around the chamber and also holds a meter pipe? that would be awsome.

Not sure about your hose barb part....got a sketch?

I can make the barrel supports and whatnot...I'd need dimensions like center to center and outside diameter of what you wanna clamp. A Sketch would be good to start with.

Can you machine garolite, G-11?
I already have some custom machined garolite parts, but I need a couple .125" wide grooves widened to .19" (1/16" wider)

Can you do that, cost? If so, it would have to be after summer, and you would be held responsible if the part was damaged (200$ or replacement....)

no not like that like instead of wood like most people use, use metal like aluminum or something and ide have a thing that the tank goes in and out of that it would attach to and it would be held to chamber by hose clamps or something idk yet its just a thought

Holy crap dude, you're staring down the barrel of a goldmine here. If you give me a few weeks and a price estimate, I'd have a good ten-twenty parts for machining. And since I've taken classes in design as well as parts drawing, you can rest assured you will know what I need. I have a valve I've wanted to try and build for an airsoft rifle, and you can be damn sure I'd need the bolt assemblies to be CNC milled. Or, at least negative molds of the parts made. As long as you can keep the price down you could probably make a KILLING off of us.

Can you give us a general price range table based on size and material, and what are the min/max part sizes you can work with?

Aluminum clamps are very doable.

I'll try to work up some pricing...but it depends on how many times I have to flip the part to do cutting, drilling, or tapping. If it's oddly shaped, it might need a little jig to hold it. Size is a factor for material price but that's pretty linear.

I'll probably buy raw material from McMaster or a similar online supplier. So you can get a rough idea on material pricing. Also, if you want a handful of parts, I can probably bring the price down.

Maybe a group buy could work..if a few people are interested in the same parts.

How many axis is your cnc mill?

Some examples of sample work and pricing for machining would be great too! Send info to Swilchek3atYahoodotCom

It's a 3 axis mill with 3d surfacing/contouring capability. Table is 40" x 22" roughly. This is the same machine: CNC Machine

See attached photos of some parts that I machined.

I am also a degreed Mechanical Engineer. I've got the theory and practical experience. If it makes anyone feel more comfortable. :)

That's some pretty sick stuff. Although I don't need anything machined.
