Rotating Shell Loader

Unread postAuthor: Atlantis » Thu May 25, 2006 10:25 pm

I was experimenting with Galfisk's pump-action design and strapped on a piece of pop bottle to move both parts of the rod at the same time when I realized I can just do this idea.
You would have say 2" pipe for the barrel's frame, just a small piece to mount the clip, there is a gap in the 1.5" barrel where the shaell falls into, this gap is half way covered by the pop bottle plastic. When the gap is open to the bottom the shell falls out, when it's pointing up a new shell falls in. The picture explains the rest.

you dont need shells, just use a 3 way ball valve.

Your talking about FiveSeven's design aren't you? I just like the concept of shells. You can have a friend make shells while your firing your cannon.
All the other shell-loaded designs are too complpicated and are prone to jamming, I figured this would be simple to make and to use.

yes that design could work very well, it would also allow an easy way to install a bolt into the side to rotate the turn loader. nice job overall, if you ever design this please let me know how it works out. :)

Well I built a prototype. I added a bolt onto it so it can lock into place. Think of the bolt like a backwards L.

_I

When the bolt is at the corner it is open to the magazine, pushing the bolt forward locks it, pulling the bolt back makes it open to the magazine but the now empty shell blocks a new shell from falling in, rotate the bolt to open it to the bottom allowing the shell to fall out, rotating the bolt back allows the next shell to fall in repeating the process. You could have the bolt shaped like a normal L but I'm right-handed so most of the bolt needs to be on the right for me, it's all a matter of preference.

1. Shell loads.
2. Bolt locks forward.
3. Fire.
4. Pull bolt back.
5. Rotate bolt / Drop empty shell.
6. Rotate bolt back to load next shell.

If you take out the forward motion you can use it as a pump-action loader, just make a pump with a half-spiral groove in it to rotate the bolt as it is pulled back.
