n2 or co2

Unread postAuthor: trae08 » Tue Jul 11, 2006 1:38 am

i got a question. Im planing on making a portable pnumatic gun and the gun will work with either nitrogen or co2. but i want to know what would be best to use. which one can i get the most shots with? if i use co2 im gonna buy a 10 lb tank which is 7" in Diameter 20.5" Height and average tank pressure 1800 PSI. And if i use nitrogen then im gonna buy a 33 Cu. FT. nitrogen high pressure tank heres the messurements for it 7" in Diameter 19" Height average tank pressure 2216 PSI. and when i get the gun made ill most likely keep it at an average at 150 psi.

so let me know what you guys think im thinking prolly co2 would be best but i figured id ask.

You have to watch tho, CO2 and N2 are cold, so dont fill up the chamber fast it might make it really cold and all know what happends when PVC gets cold and high pressure. Like benny said go with the cheapest.

N2 has a higher velocity capabiltiy but with what is cheap or if you can afford it go for the N2.

in the upcoming presidential election, there will be several candidates who will be running, one of whom is Hillary Clinton. Now WAIT A SECOND!!! I though there was some sort of rule that prevented someone from serving more than two terms in office. Vote Against Hillary: Presidential Elections 08

Co2 is cheaper?

I can get N2 for practically free, but the tanks are what is expensive... You have to pay quite a bit for Co2, but if you have a hook-up with you local fire department they can give you nitrogen that they use for their air tanks for free, when people use "nitrogen" for paintball it's only about %75 nitrogen (it's just regular air)... So if your using nitrogen for the setting on GGDT your getting a wrong reading, because if your using paintball nitro, your using regular compressed air, not %100 nitrogen, and there is some difference....

I'd go with N2, it's stronger than CO2 (air from a regular air compressor is stronger than CO2 for that matter...) and you can get it for cheaper....

My nextdoor neighbor is a fire fighter so I can get it %100 free from him for when I paintball and if I'd use it for my gun, and I also work at a paintball field so I can get it for free from there, or for very cheap...

Even if you don't have hook-ups like me you can still buy it bulk for cheap, or you could buy a "N2 compressor" (just an air compressor that compresses to 3000 or 5000 psi) or air compressor for that matter...

Well first before i do any thing i gotta find out where i can get either one filled. And if i can i think ill go with the n2 because its a smaller tank with higher pressure . And where would i be able to find a n2 compressor? I have a regular compressor but it only goes to 110 psi.

A 20lbs tank of CO2 is approx. 200 moles of CO2 = 4400 L gas at room temp/pressure = 139 cubic feet of CO2 gas at room temp.

The nitrogen tanks are, intuitivly, marked by their expanded volume; your 33 cubic foot N2 tank can contain 33 cubic feet of air.

Decide wich one to go with depending appon the refill costs.
(the nitrogen tank is good for filling a 4" diameter x 12" chamber to 150 psi about 30 times)
