C:B ratio

Unread postAuthor: WOW!! » Thu Jul 13, 2006 7:38 am

What is the optim(spelling) C:B ratio? I have been reading around and heard 1.5:1 is good. Is that right?

Seriously, princess, haven't you been around long enough to know better?!
All the C:B ratio threads should be merged into one. Which reminds me about that FAQ idea.

.8:1 = perfect for propane cannons

anything for 2:1 to 1:1 works fine for standard combustions 1.5:1 is great

For pneumatics .4:1 works, and so does 8:1, it doesn't matter

is it volume (c):volume (b) ...if your combustion has a bigger diameter than your barrel than you would want volume of the chamber to the volume of the barrel to be .8:1??? but if the cumbustion and the barrel is the same diameter than you can just do lenght to length rather than volume right?

sorry for the dumb question but i just want to clear this up...its pretty much common sense what i am asking but im sure there are people that are wondering

C:B ratio

Unread postAuthor: Johnny Blast » Sun Jul 23, 2006 2:53 pm

I noticed flames shooting out my barrel at night. I made a longer barrell so the projectile would be pushed longer for more distance. It's not scientific, but it seems to be common sense from my observation.

Obviously, you all fail to conceive the purpose of the C:B ratios... There used if say your launcher is confined to a overall length of X and your chamber to 4" in diameter, and your barrel to 1.5" in diameter. C:B ratios are just used when you want the most power for overall size, more easily said as effeincy.

Wow, in your last post it seems as if your quest is "maxium power". No limiting factor of size. So a C:B ratio of Big @ss #:1 would be a good ratio. [Big @ss # = 100,000 ? ]

The C:B ratios arent so easily answered, seeing as you have lots of limiting factors. Variables such as chamber length, barrel length, chamber diameter, barrel diameter, overall length, etc.

AKA, your not going to get one nice number on a platter seeing as the variables are to many.

Wow, you have almost 400 posts yet you still fail to conceive such a simple subject. Can I say "What a failure."?

Yeah, Pimpmann is right

WOW!!, check out the part about ratios here:

http://www.spudtech.com/content.asp?id=6

The only part I disagree with is the maximum of a 4:1 ratio... in my opinion, this is WAY too large of a ratio. Keep it from 1:1 to 2.5:1
