dry ice bomb/gun

Unread postAuthor: brian Casey » Tue Oct 31, 2006 3:14 pm

ok i was messing around with dry ice before and i thought that you could make a cannon useing this. if you put dry ice in a water botle with water it explodes due to extreme preassure if you did this by putting the bottle inside the chamber with no ignition or any holes in your chamber you would have about 100 psi of air all at once. this could be pretty powewrful. and if you wanted more power you could use a 2 liter soda bottle. what do you think?

Dangerous. I've warned people against this on other forums.

Whatever you do, don't use a soda bottle. They'll go too easily, and I know that a soda bottle bomb will blast through metal dustbins.

Use proper materials if you try.

You could build a simple barrel, big enough for the bottle to fit into, with an end cap on the ither end.
Put the whole thing underground, with only the muzzle sticking out.
Drop in the bottle-bomb, drop in the ammo and RUN!!!

Brian, problem with that: pop bottles blow straight outwards from the sides, not from the top or bottom (which are stronger than the sides). Thus, if you were going to build something like this, you should use a chamber pipe a few inches bigger than the pop bottles you'll be using, to allow for expansion, and it would be best to double-layer the entire chamber using couplers.
I wouldn't do this anyway. I'd just use a burst disk between the chamber and barrel and forget about the pop bottle.

Peace,
Pete Zaria.

Pete that isn't nessary. If the sodabottle pops due to the high pressure, It doesn't matter is the barrel is exacly as thick as the bottle or wider. If it fits exacly, the pressure will shot the ammo on top of the bottle, as well as some parts of the bottle. Either case, the ammo is shot.
Just, when the diameter of the barrel is the same as the bottle, the pressure should be much higher so the bottle top or bottom can break. OR the bottle will break in half.

However .... the idea from BTB will work.

Sounds a little risky. How are you going to get it into the bottle anyway? You would have to cut the top off and stick it back on again to put an adequately-sized chunk in there.

For this purpose, nitroglycerine, though liquid, would qualify.
For this purpose, ordinary flour, though solid, would not qualify.
Explosive device: Any device that has the capability to release large amounts of stored energy rapidly.
Discussion of fireworks as projectiles is prohibited.
Discussion of "soda bottle bombs" or any other similar devices that may cause shrapnel as a result of uncontrolled rupture is prohibited.

in the upcoming presidential election, there will be several candidates who will be running, one of whom is Hillary Clinton. Now WAIT A SECOND!!! I though there was some sort of rule that prevented someone from serving more than two terms in office. Vote Against Hillary: Presidential Elections 08

you could uwe some of those stones, dont know their name in English. But they were used long time ago in lamps. Potasium is a compound of it. If you put wter on them, flamable fumes come from the stones.

Guess potasium corbit or something like that...

Anyone nows what the name of the stones are ? When you put them in the bottle, ans make them wet, they create a high pressure as well.
