I know that you can tread iron pipe but can you weld it? I was wondering if there was a reason that i havent seen it done. Well can you?

Yes! You can weld it. You need to grind the weld surfaces right before you weld to remove any oxidation that has formed.

If you plan to use a oxy/acetylene torch then there is no reason why not but i am not sure about other electric ark welders.

Some iron pipe you have to heat first, depends on how the pipe was made, grade of iron, also proper settings for the thickness is very importent. Brazeing would hold for drainage, but not pressure.

I have a mig, arc and oxy-acetylene welder. Im no good with the oxy and best at arc and mig. So I should use a bench grinder to remove the finish, heat with oxt-ace then weld. Sounds easy. :roll:

Oh it doesnt have to hold pressure just an axel.

Mig would be best... At least, my opinion is. You can always double up a mig weld.

You have to get the iron allmost to the melting point beqfore you weld it. I would use the arc welder, better penatration.

Yes thats true. It has more power than the mig and even if I make a bad weld ( which I will prabably do) it will hold the weight.
