Does anyone know how pipes/fittings of different systems work together? For example is 2" pipe/fittings the same as 50mm pipe/fittings? Will everything from the U.S. work with things in Australia?

Thanks guys.

Are you positive?

There's a potential Australian Mauler Valve customer and I need to be sure it will thread onto Aus threaded fittings.

Gort, my dad owns a hardware store and he stocks American sch40 PVC parts. So yes im positive they work with Aussie/NZ fittings as I glued it into a New Zealand made 25mm PN18 Tee and it fits like a charm.

Edit:it would probably cost the same amount as a mauler to ship the valve to aussie.

an inch is like 25.4mm so it is probably he same. I don't know if there is anything like a metric pipe thread. Why not ship him a cheaper fitting like a 2" threaded cap or a coupler and have him check to see if that fits on his pipe.

Because I have sch40 parts in NZ and they work fine.

And metric pipe thread is British Standard Pipe(BSP)
Americans use NPT(National Pipe Thread)

BSP thread isnt used on PVC parts(usualy)just try and attach a Brass BSP 25mm nipple to a sprinkler valve without threading it or atleast stuffing some of the threads up.Sprinkler valves use PVC size thread by the way.

Back on topic.I have personaly attached a 40mm(1 1.2")SCH40 threaded cap into a female class PN18 PVC fitting. So they should all follow in uniform thread size.

So you guys use National Pipe Thread? That's odd.

Sgort, I'd send him the valve and then offer him the pipe and fittings if and when he can't find matching ones where he lives.

A cunning plan indeed...make a buck or two on the pipes as well....

Hmm...

In the UK (and elsewhere I believe) Metric 50mm usually refers to the OD of the pipe whereas 2" refers to the ID.

Try searching on the net for the OD of both pipe sizes and if they're within about .5mm (1/48"-ish) of each other, they should fit.

Well on my PB gun I have used a 25mm brass nipple to a solenoid valve and its fine,no different from normal PVC(as I attatched the barrel to the solenoid valve using PVC.)

Joanna that can't be right or it must be a British thing as 40mm PN18 in Aussie and NZ has an I.D of about 43-44m according to your theory it should be around 35-40mm depending on the thickness. Unless you mean its only for 50mm and 2' pipe.

Ok then - I assume it's UK only then.

And no, it does apply to all sizes of pipe, not just 50mm and 2".
