Golf Ball Backspin

Unread postAuthor: frocksie » Sat Apr 07, 2007 9:51 am

Recently I have been thinking about golf ball backspin, and I realized that if you had a 2in barrel sleeved inside another 2in barrel, it would leave a space, and in this space you could put a piece of rubber to impart backspin.

It could work but yet again it might just slow down the golf ball and do harm so I dint want to try it but what ever.
build one and then post it and let us know how good it works.

Instinct says a piece of rubber won't work, because rubber is usually "grippy" and the golf ball would probably stick to it and tear it off.
Some sort of bayonet-like thing with a curve of metal might work, but it would most likely fling it skyward.

As long as it is firmly attached and not too big, rubber should work fine, although it may be tricky to get the right length because you can have too much backspin. For my barrels I use a coupler at the end of the barrel with a short length of rubber glued inside. As soon as the ball exits the barrel, it hits the rubber and spins.

cool thing to do is to shoot the golf ball on the road like 6' in front of you...it gets so much backspin that it bounces up then makes a aggressive curve down.

-that is all

well, or we could look at what a golf ball is supposed to be hit with, lol

you can spin the golf ball with a golf club

so i would say that a roughed up strip of steel would give you some spin

Or perhaps venting the air with a slight angle so that it spins persay down the barrel and if the ball is loose enough it will gather centrifugel speed and spin once exiting the barrel. ?

I've thought of something better, get a router and cut spiral strips from 2"pvc then sleeve it in the 2"barrel

Whoah whoah whoah, golf balls are made to be hit with golf clubs? [/sarcasm]

Was that from the barrel or after it hit the wall? And how far from the wall were you?

Anyone seen a flatline barrel for a Tippmann Paintball gun. It has a curve in it, puts a backspin on the paintball giving it a flat trajectory and longer range. Curve the barrel up so when the golf ball is fired it hits the curve and begins to spin.

Thats interesting!! Although, wouldn't be difficult to do the same to pvc without warping it? (I'm thinking heat bending)

Heat bending would probably weaken the pipe. I don't know if it would make it weak enough to fail though.

I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges.
Right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before.
