Loudest Cannon

Unread postAuthor: djbizz1 » Sun Jun 17, 2007 2:52 am

I was wondering what size pipes would make the loudest boom?
Is it the fatter the pipe the louder? The longer barrell the louder? or the longer the chamber the louder? I'm getting ready to build a basic one and i was thinking of the 4" to 2" cannon. Thanks....

i would have thought the shorter the barrel the louder but correct me if i'm wrong.

Happy SPuddin'

edit- oh and a large chamber wouldn't hurt too

A High C:B ratio would help make a loud boom.Say 3L chamber with a 1L barrel it would make quite a bang.

Using a burst disk (i.e., two layers of aluminum foil in a union) with no projectile, in a propane-metered gun with a high C:B ratio, will produce about the loudest bang you're going to get out of a spudgun without going to a hybrid.

Peace,
Pete Zaria.

Ok,well a C:B is the Chamber to Barrel Ratio.and the 3L stand for 3Litres by volume and the barrel wiht a volume of 1 Litre. You can remember learning Ratios from school right?

I can give you some rough designs that would yeild a loud cannon.

-500mm long 100m Diameter pipe,chamber.
-800mm long 50mm Diameter pipe,barrel.
-100mm to 50mm Reducer.
-100mm threaded endcap.
-PVC Cement and Primer.

If you are using inches you can convert that yourelf, not going to fully spoon feed you.

spudthug What the hell are you smoking mate? I was saying to rna that the specs he posted is for one hell of a loud cannon?
dude that f@ckin lil counter means crap to me and what the f#$k do you do with spud bucks?????
Can i by smokes and beer with them? NO so what the hell dose it mean to me.
I congratulate good work when i see it mate so get off ya high horse.

Back on topic:
Shorter barrels normaly mean louder bang but less power. But this guy asked for bang and id go for a large chamber then compress down into a small diamiter barrel thats short and that should get you what you want.

Before my propane cannon exploded, dry firing (no projectile or burst disk) with the fan running resulting in the loudest bangs I have ever heard a gun produce. It was much louder than a 12 gauge shotgun.

A large hybrid, preferably made out of metal, at a 4x mix should make a REALLY loud bang. If you don't put the barrel on it, it will be even louder.
