Anyone do 3D modelling?

Unread postAuthor: Gepard » Thu Jul 12, 2007 1:12 pm

Hi,

I'm looking for someone who is able to create 3D models of PVC fittings. I'm writing some new spudgun software that includes a 3D virtual spudgun builder but I can't go ahead until I've found someone who can draw up the parts.

As the parts will eventually be turned into DirectX objects please don't say i can send you a .STL (for example) file unless your sure it can be converted (by freeware).

I'm too busy working on the other aspects of the program to do it myself and even if I had the time I hate 3D modelling.

Please reply here if you can help or email me at: michaelhims@blueyonder.E.co.uk (removing the .E)

Cheers,

Michael

I do a bit of 3d animation, but nothing tooo difficult! I have lots of free time too. Put it this way, if no one else will help you, I will! (free obviously) But if theres some one better than me (very possible!) they should go ahead with it.
Let me know if you want to use me for this please (Im on holiday, which is perfect opportunity)

btw, my animations are .AVI for moving and .jpeg, .gif, bitmap for still and Im not sure what all else, but I can check if you want me to.

Hi,

Yeah that'll be great. What program do you use? I guess it's wait and see how many people say they can. All I need is the basic T, Elbow, Recuders etc so it's not like it's a movie or anything :D

Cheers,

Michael

Oh sure, I can do that! I thought you wanted to make an animation of the whole thing being built! LOL! (I can do that though)
I use anim8or, its freeware, but awesome. i have another one, rhino, but I dont use it.
Ja, we'll see the outcome, then decide who's best suited I guess.

Well if you can do it thats great. As I said all I need are the individual parts but I've no idea how to do it. Want to?

Michael

EDIT: Just looked and that should be fine as you can export 3DS files which I can then convert.

Yeah sure, I can get started tomorrow even and just give you a few "previews" before you decide, if you want.
Making the entire moving cannon maker etc etc would be a mission, but I could do it for like one cannon if you want.

(See edit above in case you missed it.)

Well you could sart on something simple like a coupler (just a tube) and then I'll try that to make sure any problems are worked out before you go and make the whole 'set'.

The idea is that people can make their own cannons using this so I don't really have a need for a whole cannon....

Thanks,

Michael

OK cool! I can build a cannon, and show them what the end product will look like, so long as I dont have to animate the construction!
This program sounds really cool though, respect for dedicating time to create it!
Just give me a list of 5 or so objects you would like me to create for you, and I can create one easy one now, and the rest tomorrow.

If you need some more help, I am a CAD major, and I can draw parts in programs such as Solidworks and Inventor. Also, they may be readily available on http://www.cbliss.com/inventor/Parts/Plumbing/index.htm
If you need any more help or advice on drafting, drawing, etc. let me know.

If I do do the animations for Gepard, I might take you up on your offer of any help etc! Otherwise you sound pretty good for the job! Maybe we could work together if you wanted to? Where do you work?

I am still an intern in a sheet metal fabrication plant. I work in both sales and engineering right now. 3 semesters to go! I don't do much with animation, but just about anything can be drawn as a solid part. I don't know if you checked out that link, but Bliss is a VERY helpful resource with these kinds of things (if you are using inventor).
One more really cool thing, my school has a rapid prototype machine, so I can prototype just about any small parts. That thing is awesome!

Flip that sounds cool! I looked at the link and their pics look awesome, wonder if we could use them... nah, just remake them!
Youre so lucky to have all those resources!

16 :( LOL! But age doesnt really affect intelligence, at least, thats what I like to think! I believe its all got to do with the way you percieve concepts and your process of analyzing information and creativity that makes you clever or stupid with this kind of thing (spudguns and other technical creations). Oh well, who knows! Haha, how profound...

*read "Mister God, this is Anna" the book to see where this comes from!

Thanks for the offer Robert but I can draw CAD drawings myself, it's just that 3D models are slightly different and I've yet to find away to convert them..(I use ProE and SolidWorks)

Spud Yeti,

As I said I think it's best if you start off with a coupler as that takes the less time I'd imagine and then I'll play with that and make sure I can use it and then you can do the rest. I think we'll need:
Pipe
Reducer
Coupler
T
Elbow
Cross Piece
and an Endcap.

If anyone wants anything else please post it now.

I should be able to then scale the drawings so you don't need to redraw it for every size....

Cheers,

Michael
