safety first

Unread postAuthor: jackssmirkingrevenge » Wed Jul 18, 2007 8:44 am

This is a very graphic illustration of the dangers of ricochet:

50 caliber rifle shooter hit by ricochet

Note how the 50 cal slug hit the ground before taking the guy's headgear clean off - the chances of these sort of circumstances being repeated are incredibly tiny, but as the video shows, these things DO happen - and are more likely to happen at spudgun ranges, where ranges are usually close to point blank.

so remember, ALWAYS check your backstop - and don't shoot hard objects at hard targets, especially if your projectile is unlikely to penetrate the target

Woah! That was soo lucky! I had a similar experience where my friend threw a rock at a block of concrete and it ricocheted back... except it hit my head and I had 3 stitches behind my ear! Now imagine a projectile at much higher speeds, and its damage! Scary thought....

Wow, I have done the same thing with my crossman nightstalker. A ricochet hit my shoulder, now I only shoot at targets angle downward.
