We loaded a big potato in my combustion gun, which was now more powerful because of barrel shortening, and put an arrow on the front of that. We fired it and watched the potato fly and drop at about 200 yards. I wondered where the arrow went. When we got back to the house there was an arrow sticking out of the front porch![:0][:0][:0]

um... Im just wondering, why the hell would you shoot an arrow at an angle at all?!??! Just a word of advice, if youre shooting something that it potatially harmful or fatal dont shoot it where you dont know where it will go!!! At least shoot it into a target...

why were you shooting in the direction of your house? I dont mean straight at it (you said it went off course), I mean within 180 degrees? bad idea...

Im just saying, if youre gonna shoot dangerous [excrement] (especially sharp pointy stuff), shoot it into a target!! You say the wind blew it off course and I know you cant control the wind but you CAN control WHERE you shoot it (into open skies or into a target)...

You said that arrow went right into your porch... what if it had gone a little farther, IE: into someone else's porch, car or a person?! Ignorance is how people get their guns and sometimes their freedom taken away.

I have shot potatoes with nails in them but I have a target (big tree trunk) with plywood backing... Just try to have some common snese, Im not saying that youre an idiot or anything, I just dont want you to get in trouble or give more reason for people to be anti-spudgun...

LOL! There was no wind it was in the middle of August. I don't know what we were doing. We had just built it and didn't think it would go that far. And we were out in the country, not in my suburban area so there wasen't anyone around. But now that I think about it, I'm glad our ballista project went to ruins....

Well I would say pretty stupid. things like this is what gives spud guns bad names. But live and learn though I guess and in a way it is a little funny at least, scarry but funny.

how long was your barrel to begin with? how big is your chamber?
