Burst Disk Sticky

Postby ryno » Fri Jan 02, 2004 10:01 pm

this topic is to pool a bunch of materials(preferably cheap) that could be used as the burst disk in hybrids.
heres what i got so far:lots of duct tape or really strong tape.
what are some others. i also think we need to test different disks to different pressures. just some thoughts.

forgot to mention it would be good to have this a sticky, so just one topic like the wadding one in ammo. you dont have to get so pissy although it was partially my fault, forgot to mention it could be a good sticky.

Too bad you can't use AOL cd's.What about old innertubes cut into circles? I'm sure bike shops would love to get rid of them.

any one think balsa wood would work, maybe some reinforcments like duct tape. may work, just a thought that popped into my head. maybe plastic grocery bags with duct tape.

Odd, I was thinking the exact same thing ryno. Shopping bags are plentiful and could be beefed up.

Plexiglass, thin aluminum, thin titanium(dont laugh, its strong but brittle, so it should bust good if thin enough), some layers of 8 mil window film, blue kiddie swimming pools...

balsa, thats good thinking :)

coat your balsa with white glue to seal it(with or without paper) gets remarkably strong

20 mil water garden liner

Glass

For the aluminum, you could try cutting apart pop cans. It would be essentially free, and you should be able to make a burst disk for anything below 4" pipe... They might need scored so that they didn't just bend out of the way and get crunched into the barrel though.
