Folding Hacksaw

Post stuff here pertaining to non-spud related projects that many forum members seem to enjoy. Hovercrafts, dirt bikes, electronics, propane-powered bikes, go-karts, etc. This is more of a project area,
not a place to chat about what you saw yesterday on TV. Remember to keep it within the forum rules!

This is one of those things I build just for the sake of trying it out. It's a cut-down hacksaw blade mounted on a pivot inside a PVC handle. I didn't build it to actually use, but it does come in handy every now and then.

That's a pretty cool idea, I'm guessing it folds like a pocket knife?

your high schools are completely NUTS, is it true that you have metal detectors?

question, does it feel solid when you are using it?

It's solid enough to use, but not too great. The joint is a little shaky, and there isn't a lock on the blade.

Maybe integrating the blade into an existing pocket knife would improve its performance?

Well...thats just the thing...hacksaws are supported on either end of the blade. Find a way to support the end of the blade, or at least the middle of it.

BTW: I heard that they lost it on some kid for pretending a chicken finger was a gun in school....unreal.

That was the original idea, but the only pocketknives I have are actual Victorinox ones which I don't want to take apart. Even if I wanted to, I couldn't. I'll take a look at some dollar store knives, though.

The shakiness isn't from the actual blade wobbling, it comes from the fact that the pivot nail is considerably smaller than the hole in the blade. The blade itself is fairly stable, because it's cut down to 6" or so. If I had the full 12" blade on there, it would be a problem, but it's short enough that it doesn't really matter.

Yea, we have in school cops and a private company that comes in and does car and room sniffs with their dogs.

Heres what happens to me. So they call me to the office...They take me to my truck saying they found slingshot ammo sitting in my cupholder(used for mini piston cannon ROFL). Apparently they have grounds for search when they see amunition. I later found out that it is VERY illegal for the school to do this kind of search but since i enrolled they made me sign a shool policy where they can expell me if i dont let them search. Its BULLSHIT i know!
They end up searching my truck. Before they do, both principal and assistant end up asking me if i have illicit drugs in my truck(im not that type of person at all). Im going through all the little details because the experience was funny! When the guy climbs in my pickup, hes a short dude and i have a 4x4 pickup so he crawls up with his hands and knees and leans on the horn for a solid 5 seconds. By then all the people in school are looking out the window...So i have a crowbar on my passenger seat. I used it to remove a rusted on trailer tire the day before, forgot it was there. He tells me it shouldnt be in my immediate reach. So all he does is sit it behind my frekin seat, what an idiot! Next they find a slingshot that i had been looking for for like 3 months, and i told em, "thanks ive been looking for that!" Kinda made ASSistant principal grin...
Well apperantly since i had ammo and the slingshot that is bad(it was a complete accident). Well, they go through my console and find a Bic lighter, i dont smoke and who knows when you need one? So the drug dog guy says, "usually we dont confiscate these butane ignition devices unless it has some substances like tobacco with it or something, do you still want to confiscate it Mr. Mcneil?" He tells him to take it still!
So after were done the drug dog guy starts asking me if i need to go to a counselor to talk about why i might be carrying a crow bar in my front seat...

Nedless to say, my dad was PISSED OFF when i told him what they asked me. My dad is a VERY respected indivdual and knew the two princiapls very well. My dad went and chewed em out about how thye shouldnt be asking me that.
All they required was him to go pick up the contraband and i get it back with no punishment! Whats funny is i miss 3rd hour and when i go to 4th everyone was like,"dude what were they doing to your truck and why was the horn honking?!?!" So i got to explain what happened and didnt do anything in 4th.
That was a GREAT day. Best thing is, the principals dont talk to me anymore! My mom and dad said to call them to be my witness if they ever do it again.
Im set for school now!

Sorry for the sever hijack.....
