What to do, what to do

Post stuff here pertaining to non-spud related projects that many forum members seem to enjoy. Hovercrafts, dirt bikes, electronics, propane-powered bikes, go-karts, etc. This is more of a project area,
not a place to chat about what you saw yesterday on TV. Remember to keep it within the forum rules!

110vac = worthless.

can't build a gen, or a portable motor. relatively LOW horsepower (like 1/10hp), and probably bushed shafts with slop in them.

but they make a nice paperweight

Josh,

It's not entirely useless...

Try putting a puley on the shaft and see what you can drive with a belt. Or maybe use it as the up/down adjustment on a potato launcher stand? Maybe the right/left adjustment? Heh, the only downside is you have to be near a power source, though.... =/

Cheers.

im kinda with pl3x

the shafts are probably running in bushings, not bearings... unless its an old vacuum. meaning that they probably have some slop... so anything decently precision is out...

also, 110 volts, and low horsepower most likely....

just looking at it says a lot... open like that, says it isnt a performance machine... its not built to be put on something that doesnt have some sort of cover over it...

now if it was a 24VDC 6.5HP beastly motor, then you have something...

otherwise... dunno...

as for uses, besides a paper weight, make a stand and shroud for it, and use it as a bench grinder hahaha.

EDIT:

also, you can get variable voltage controls (high current draw dimmer switch basically) that will allow you to adjust the RPM of it... so that may be of some use depending on what you do end up using it for.

it may... its a little big for a bench grinder, but it's free, so who cares...

it probably has enough HP to grind some stuff... if not, get a nice sized fan blade setup, and hook it to it, make a custom shroud for the blades, and the motor, and put in your room.... add in a variable control. and voila... high power industrial personal cooling device.;)8):D

just dont make the shroud out of a lousy material that you can stick your hand through still[:0]:?[:p]

EDIT: spelling errors

I think you should build a Van de Graaf generator. That'd be pretty sweet.

Does anyone else think that first picture looks like a gargoyle at first glance?

(I need to stop making so many off-topic posts)
