Evolution: The individual, education, and overal

Postby Spudman07 » Mon Feb 19, 2007 10:21 pm

I am a Christian. I believe in the creation. Just to get that out.

Ok, so all of you that believe in evolution, try this. Draw a circle. This circle represents all the knowledge EVER thought of by anyone on the face of the earth. This circle encompasses ALL knowledge ever conceived. Now, place a dot on this circle that represents the amount of knowledge that you believe you hold out of all the earth's knowledge.

Not so big, is it (well, it could be if you're a little egotistical). That shows that there is so much more that you don't know, so creation could be in the category of knowledge that you don't know. I know this could apply to me in the inverse way (evolution). But you know what? I feel so much better believing my viewpoint. Why? What happens if I am wrong? I die. What happens if you are wrong? You go to hell...

The source is FLAWLESS?

Man wrote the bible. Man is very flawed.

Faith is worthless. It is the desire of an individual to believe without any proof. You have your "faith" because you were taught to have faith. Your church than drilled punishments into your head if you denied this faith. I don't want to be told I'm going to burn in hell if I question authority. The catholic church is a sham. It is the teachings of Catholicism that should be followed.

I don't have any more time to elaborate. Ill be sure to post again in this topic tomorrow. I have to go do my <b>SCIENCE</b> homework!

Not in my church. I'm not Catholic. The Presbyterian church is much more simple. No confession, no huge ceremonies. It's basically (as I see it) raw God and always open to debate and question. This is my experience so far.

<blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="tahoma,verdana,arial" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">

The only power a woman can truly have over a man, is to have the man emotionally dependent on her.

The only power a man thinks that he has over a woman, is that he satisfies her in bed.

Either one is afraid that another possible partner somehow satisfies them in a way that the other cannot.<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">
I asked for an argument from Intelligent Design; and furthermore, WHY do each of these sexes have their respective "only power" :?:

<blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="tahoma, verdana, arial" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">That shows that there is so much more that you don't know, so creation could be in the category of knowledge that you don't know.<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">
Could be. Could not be. Thats the thing... anything <i>could</i> be. How does this support creationism over, say, Zoroastrianism? That could be, too...

Your belief is based on that simple probability estimate? Hardly genuine, really. Its fear based.

Second, I don't believe in Hell. Can you demonstrate that Hell exists? How does Hell stay warm? Where is it located?

And again, how is a belief in evolution incompatible with a belief in Jesus?

<blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="tahoma,verdana,arial" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">
Got proof? When you do, drop me a line.<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">
Is God right or left handed? [:p]

<blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="tahoma, verdana, arial" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">Why do people think God never harms people? Not intentionally picking on you, but I get this kind of stuff all the time.<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">
The mountain would've blown up regardless of whether people were there or not. Intent has nothing to do with it. And furthermore, if God DID intend on harming people (or, more appropriately, he harmed the surrounding environment)... then why? And how did God cause the it to explode?

<blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="tahoma,verdana,arial" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">Can somebody prove to me gravity exists? Go ahead, drop a book. Well? I didn't see any gravity.<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">
So? You can measure gravity, you can predict how long it will take the book to fall, etc. Physical forces such as gravity are de$criptive and predictive, both key components of a scientific process.

On your same logic, radio waves don't exist.

<blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="tahoma,verdana,arial" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">
And for something on topic, I think evolution and intelligent design are both complete crap. I know God made what I see and that's all I need to know<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">
If you're content with not knowing anything about the physical world, well, I can't convince you otherwise.

Your commentary is fair enough......
If faith is worthless...is love?

Man loves!

Or is love ok but faith is different?

The bible has stood the test of time far better than any creation of man.
The bible was written by disciples of Christ.
Can you imagine your buddy telling you you would deny your best buddy 3 times. And that you would stand by idly while your best buddy was crucified.....and then....your buddy told you he would arise 3 days later after his death?
Your buddy healed the sick, walked on water, produced lunch for thousands from a picnic basket, turned water to wine, pissed of the jews....pissed off the romans....and pissed off you as he only spoke in parables so that those who have faith can see.
All the prophesies of the bible have come true when it was said they would come true.

Me thinks you give science too much credit.

At least you got homework and there are no muslims chasing you down for blood sport.

Regardless of whether his life was exaggerated or not (literary authentication wasn't very prevalent back then), Jesus' teachings are important.

If everyone tried to live his or her life by Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, we'd live in a much more harmonious society.
I think we can all agree on that.

I have no doubt that if Jesus exists, then he shares my distrust of mere humans who purport to know divine law. It isn't Jesus who pisses me off, it's the fools who use $cripture to justify their biases and hatred.

Sadly, this will turn into yet ANOTHER debate based on 17 different opinions... which will undoubtedly lead to several hundred different theories about each opinion.

We are sentient beings, but have no [currentelly intercourseing] clue as to why we are REALLY here. We base our level of intelligence, not by what we believe is the most plausible, but by what we believe is the most <b>convenient</b> to fit our current lifestyle.

It is far easier for most to believe that this all happened by chance, rather than because of some future purpose. Personally, I really couldn't care less WHAT any of you believe in, so long as it does not somehow directly affect MY current choice of lifestyle.

LOL ;-)
Come on Plow.....I'm a rabid neocon!
Tender American teens aren't in season yet! I could get a ticket.
Besides, I don't chase down kids doing homework.....I wait til they are done!
...and then only if their pants are hanging off their assumption, nose rings, nipple rings.....and sportin a 'tude.

Yet the failure of others to "See" is a concern.
Can't say as I'm gonna remedy the problem anytime soon either. ;-)
It's not my job!

Yet... In a work environment...Things are waaaaay different! Taking another's life in this world, even if they are liberal, is not on my list of priorities. If something isn't going the way I think it should....I get all spooled up, throwing the hardhat drill , using all my motor skills for emphasis , Applying the english language in the manner it was intended to inflict maximum damage and in general.....getting my way... ;-)

Life IS sacred.

But how are we here?;)

I do see what you're saying, I'm just giving you grief.

I think its easier to think we're all here for a reason; realizing that your individual life has little meaning beyond what you make of it can destroy one's entire reality! Overcoming that is tough.

I care most about understanding this world in which we live. The more we learn, the closer we become to eliminating yet another pestilence or plague. Thanks to scientific progress begun all the way back with Bacon, Locke, Copernicus, and many others, we now have medical and communication technology which has saved countless million lives. We have a huge understanding of the person (psychology) and societies (sociology), and these fields are far from slowing in growth.
