1.5 and 2 inch sprinkler valves

Hi,

I'm fairly new to the pneumatic potato gun business and was wondering if anyone had tried either of these valves:

Orbit
1-1/2 In. FIP Nylon Reinforced Electric Inline Valve With Flow Control

Model 57026


or

Orbit
2 In. FIP Nylon Reinforced Electric Inline Valve With Flow Control

Model 57027


Would these valves give enough improvement in flow rate relative to their cost over the standard 1 inch valve? Thanks.

Build or buy a piston valve for about the same price or cheaper and get better performance.

Modifying either one of these valves to actuate pneumatically, it winds up looking like some Frankenstein abortion. Most valves I've dealt with require charging the top of the diaphragm at the same time as the chamber.

But then again, I've never attempted to modify the equalization hole in the diaphragm, for fear of ruining the valve.

But wouldn't the size of the input and out compensate for acutaing the valve by soleniod instead of by pneumatically? 2" is a lot of flow, I would assume.

I don't think that it really has 2" flow, even though the porting is 2." For example, the 1" sprinkler valves still only have the equivalent of a 9/16th" hole.

I say you're better off spending a lot less money, by building a barrel sealing piston valve, which will give you much better flow. They're not that hard to build either.

Even then I wouldn't mind trying the valves to see if there is any prefomance increase to be had over 1'' Inlines that I have been using. I doubt that I can get them anywhere on-island, thats the problem. x.x

Thanks for the input; I'll try the 2 inch valve anyway and post the results later.

I'll attempt a piston valve for the next project or if the 2 inch valve is disappointing on its own.

I've got a 2" sprinkler valve gun. I believe it was the third gun I ever built (not that I build a lot). I don't think it looks like an abortion. Quite the opposite. It worked out very well (easy one-hand operation, perfectly balanced). Shoots golf balls at about 450 fps w/ 60 psi IIRC (been a while since I actually fired it).
