Your problem is that you're using either too little or too much fuel.

My first guess is that you are using too much fuel. Less is more. Just a few squirts will do it. Also, you need to vent your chamber after each shot or the exhaust fumes will choke any subsequent ignition.

on the note of your gluing...primer is not needed for ABS...I have built 4 canons out of ABS and not once use primer, mainly because there is no ABS primer that I know of.

I personally used PVC/ABS cleaner (like <a href="http://www.oatey.com/apps/catalog/showskus.asp?ctg=1&subctg=1&prodgrpid=173">THIS</a>) for a "primer" on my ABS gun. It's held up to multiple accidental closed-chamber firings.

Yeah, that's cleaner. It makes the bond slighty better, but it isnt entirely necessary. I usually just wipe the surface down with rubbing alcohol, sure theres some residue left after it dries, but I don't think its enough to cause any problems.

Edit: I'm still having trouble! My potato cannon will still not fire! I didn't even put a seconds worth of spray in there! Still no explosion! Any ideas? My AXE contains Alcohol Denat., Isobutane, propane, Parfum, Isopropyl Myrisstate.

Yes, ABS does not require primer for a proper bond. There's a great page on ABS properties and usage somewhere, (it's a PDF), but I can't find it again. Just hand on a second and I might be able to find it.
