How do you make one and what are the advantages and disadvantages of them?

Assuming you are talking PVC it is probably less expensive to use schedule 80, it definitely would be less hassle.

You can Dremel the flange out of a coupler and slide them over the pipe they're supposed to be coupling.

Just more strength I suppose. A nice look as well.

You have to buy more parts and Dremel are a bitch when they bite back.

I've got a nice scar on my thumb from where a dremel bit me. I know the pressure rating on 4in sch40 to be 220psi. What would that increase to?

It might make it a little more safe, but it won't increase the pressure rating. Pressure ratings are a result of standards, testing, and the work of professional engineers.

Plus you still have the fittings at the end of the pipe that are rated at the same pressure of the pipe that they are for, and finding a way reinforce the fittings is more trouble than it is worth. Just upgrade the size of the piping or upgrade materials.

It depends on how you do it, but most double walling is mostly cosmetic. It may provide some impact protection, but like I said above unless you go to a lot of trouble, the fittings on the ends are still vulnerable.

You could also use it to hide wires if you were do some extra work with the Dremel.
