Tylers First Coaxial (with video)

This was the first coaxial that i have ever made... it is also the first time i soldered and it worked out fine... it a copper and steel gun... it also has no leaks :) .. but due to the large pilot volume and large ball valve. it vents the air to quickly and has little power.. but enough power to go through 1 side of a spray paint can.. i will get smaller ball valve and pilot chamber tommorow.

specs:
- about 12 inches of 3/4" copper
- 30 inches of 1/4" brakeline

Ammo:
- Copper head Premium BB's

Pic of the ful gun.

thats pretty nice coaxial. did you tap the nipple or did it come like that? im guessing you tapped it.

what is the piston made of?

yes i did tap the pipe nipple and i had a wooden dowen piston but i accidentally put in the hot gule piston that i had made before.

Venting the air as quickly as possible is what gives it the power ;)

For small calibres, if you want decent power you should either have a very long barrel and large chamber, or with the chamber size you have at least 200 psi+ of pressure, which the all metal construction looks like it can take.

edit: also, with some careful design, that ball valve isn't even necessary, you can actuate the piston with the schrader.

i agree with jackssmirking revenge increase the barrel size for anything that shoots small objects. a gun im working on at the moment has a 1:10 chamber to barrel ratio. but its fine like that because its a strafer.

Well im sorry i thought the ball valve was the issuse because i just lubed the ball valve so i can open faster and it has way more power than i thought it would ever have.. but was i right with the part if i gett smaller pilot area will it give it more power.

how far does the piston move back? If its moving back more than 1/16", then you're wasting power. Can you post a diagram of the piston area, i might be able to make some better suggestions.

From my experience with small calibre launchers however, I still insist you need run at high pressure for these dimenstions. What sort of psi are you running at now?

i usually run about 130psi and the piston moves i think about 1/4"-1/2" but if it is moving to far back i will make a longer and lighter piston tommorow.

Looks like a cool gun, and Im sure with some altercations it can get to work really well. Is it just me, or does your barrel bend upwards slightly?
I would suggest you increase your pressure, since its all copper and steel which can take pressure fairly well. Maybe try 160-200PSI.
Also try attach the ball valve straight to the adjacent pipe, without the connecting copper pipe, because this will reduce pilot volume.
Good work though

i just made a video..its kinda bad/not that good but its the first time ive edited and the reason i didnt shoot anything good is because it was raining out side.

I hate it when people use the word "gay" as a synonym for crap/bad/not cool/etc etc. It really "gets my goat"! :D
May the original thread now continue....
