Use a threaded plug. Just as easy to take off as a cleanout, but a lot more threads and thicker plastic. They don't make DWV ABS threaded plugs, but you live in the states, so you could always use a steel or SCH 80 PVC one.

Well, if you seem to think it's okay, then I guess it is, eh? Emerson would be proud, but, of course, Emerson is dead. Please don't go join him anytime soon.

Just don't get so upset because we don't agree with you. Contrary to your cavalier attitude towards pressure on a rather large surface area, it is, in fact, dangerous. It doesn't matter if it "rips" or "explodes", it's still 60 PSI of pressure on 3" pipe, and that's a lot of force.

ABS pipe is, of course, made in pressure rated form. It is also made in a solid wall form. Your pipe, from my reading, is neither, meaning it is cellular core ABS. You can take your chances with that, if you really feel like it, or you can invest the few extra dollars for pressure rated components.

Cwazy1 Quote~ arent we humans? cant we find out the pressure limit ourselves and "evolve"

That makes my smile... :D

A moment of silence please, for all our brother's that have been blown up so we can move forward on this evolutionary quest for propultion... :)

I in no way advocate the use of any cellular core plastic pipe. ABS where I live is solid wall by default, you have to look around a bit to get the cellular core stuff. As I said before, if this is cellular core pipe you should scrap it. And if the cleanout blows off at any decent pressure, expect total loss of hearing for at least 30 seconds, and a faint ringing for several minutes, or more. Which is althogether pleasant compared to what will happen if you actually get hit by said cleanout cap (even on a richochet they pack a punch). The hearing loss and shock alone should be enough to teach most people their lessons after the first go.

Is most ABS cellcore in the US? This would explain people's harsh attitudes toward it. Because cellcore ABS is almost as hard to get as PR PVC in Ontario.
