Finally saw the new video with sound. Great video, cool music also.
I'll try to get on youtube to rate it (the best rating).

I was thinking of the first video and remembered this from another post:
daxspudder wrote:there is a better way. take a bunch of drinking straws and glue them together side by side, enough to fill your barrel, then fill(just the end) with them, Im not sure how it works, but it does, it will keep the water in a stream, its what disney uses at its parks for the "jumping water".
IMO, It would be awesome to have another barrel like daxspudder explained. Solid mass of H20 from something that size!
May even work for a one blast fire extinguisher launcher?

Guess it would need tubing rather than straws. And care could be taken in case they accidently fly out 8)

hah

you'll soon see on the news:

"teenager killed by impalement of drinking straws."

I was really referring to if smaller pvc or metal tubing was used.
Since the tremendous power would probably break drinking straws.
But it shouldn't be shot directly at anyone anyway.

Also, I was sort of thinking, It would be cool to see on news "Teenager saved from house fire by experimental water cannon" (Maybe fired through the window or something).

Now, please build one for it, and test it then post a video! (Just an idea). Thanks. 8) Awesome cannon!

lol well i'll have to research how to fire a stream of water. it seems like i would be a little difficult because of the air from the cannon mixing with the water and just making a mist cloud.

maybe make a piston barrel?

Awesome shooting video! Well put together and edited....great damage. I just caught it a day later here.

That stainless steel slug is downright nasty.

Wow!!! Nice diagram, Lynyrd Skynyrd.

I was thinking just maybe foot long or so pipes clustered together lengthwise, (like a honeycomb sort of) at the end of the barrel like daxspudder suggested in the other post I quoted from.

I haven't tested it myself yet. Seemed interesting.
And of course the first water blast video on this cannon was the first I thought of.

If an internal piston was used like your diagram, the same type nozzle would still be worth testing.
Also IMO there should be more vent holes and further back to slow down the piston before it hits the end. Thanks. 8)

i was thinking about that, but i think the piston would slow down quite a bit from the compression from the water down to a 3" hole. I only put one vent in b/c if you start adding more, more water would be lost as it passes it.

I was also thinking of even eliminating the open air hole and putting a sprinkler there so instead of loosing water you just have to flip a switch and decompress the air from the barrel.

Or even inventing some sort of valve that is inside of the piston that will allow air to pass through once it reaches the end?

Hmm... interesting ideas... We'll definitely have to see if we can get some of this stuff to work. I like the straw idea, but I just don't see how that would work. Can you link to the original thread?

you guys have convinced me to construct a large cannon...... sadly to only shoot taters but.... whatever.

mines a little smaller though to cope with a semi-rural enviroment..

anyway just watched that video of yours........ did you ever hit those smokestacks?

also, you should really make a Saboted Dart for that thing.... im pretty sure you could punch holes in 1/4 inch steel plate with that.....

Also.... im pretty sure you dont want to... but for kicks...... i say build a 50 foot long marble barrel....... or 100 feet of airsoft BB barrell..... lol

I'm pretty sure I do want to...but there is just not a feasible way to do it. And we didn't hit the stacks, although the golfballs easily cleared them, as did a tennis ball filled with some rocks to make it heavier. Google earth puts the stacks .29 miles from where we were shooting.

haha wow....... thats pretty insane...

i wouilda tried to shoot the stacks with a can o beer... woulda been great...

Funny that you mention it - we did. The first can was dead on target but came up short. So we cranked up the pressure. We couldn't get the next can to fly straight though. It literally made a left turn in mid flight. And i might add that this is with the gun around 30 degrees, not exactly optimal for distance shooting.

And going back to your comment about an extremely long marble barrel... we want to build a long GB barrel that is over 20' and try to break the sound barrier(using helium). Unfortunately we are having trouble finding the proper SDR-21 pipe.

I know for a fact Tractor Supply Co. sells 1.5" SDR 21. Its only about 5-6 bucks for a single 10 foot length. Again, amazing cannon man. I cant wait to see it reach it's full potential.
