Hi,
I was not gonna post this but the people who welcomed me in my "hello world" thread encouraged me to. So here it is.

My attempt at replicating an M72 LAW launcher.
Image

Youtube video of a buddy firing it in a parking lot.

and My instructions on how to make one
http://www.instructables.com/id/Airsoft ... -launcher/

It's made out of 2" schedule 40 ABS pipe with a fiberglass shell. It shoots Nerf pocket vortex a little over 100 yards. I use it for airsoft and I have a strict minimum engagement distance rule of 100 feet. At that range the energy is dissipated enough where a person can catch the football without injury.
This is used as an "area effect" weapon. That is, it is never, ever aimed directly at a person.

wow it looks really good, how does the firing mechanism work?

Firing mechanism is a simply sliding aluminum bar in a retaining bracket that depresses a trigger valve. There is a short rod mounted perpedicular to the bar. I push the rod forward that slides the bar forward which then depresses the valve open and BOOM!!! Nerf goes a flyin.

I actually have a copy of this on my harddrive I downloaded from Instructables. In other words, this was a really good job.

Yup, that's my instructable. I built 4 and brought 2 to my airsoft field. I showed it to the field owner for approval to use. not only did he approve its use, he paid me cash for the second one.

The annoying thing is that I get comments on youtube all the time that I'm full of s**t. They say that no way is it home made. That I bought it from a store. But I know people in this forum can appreciate DIY. and things like these are easy enough to build.

Cheers,
rdp

I don't think anyone here would dispute the build. Hell, most of the people who look at stuff on youtube wouldn't know quality if it bit them on their @$$.

I have noticed that you are new here (even though I missed the welcome party in the other thread - welcome btw). Your assumptions about this community are right. And as long as you maintain this sort of attitude, I'm sure that no one here will hesitate to help you out.

You thought about working on and improving this piece?

You get jerks like that. Alternatively, you can put up with the opposite of "omg how did u build that ill pay u $200 for one" or "can u give me plans plz", which gets annoying after a while as well.
There's also a middle ground of people who believe you made it, but that you used plans from somewhere (because of course, no-one is capable of making their own plans... else, where do the plans come from in the first place?)

Either way, some people are idiots, some people are jerks, some are both. Fortunately, this site is mostly lacking in any of the above.

Anyway, good looking cannon (if perhaps a mite rough here and there) - certainly not half as bad as you seemed to imply earlier. Looking forward to seeing what you can come up with next.

I like it a lot. Perhaps the only areas to do anything with would be the barrel rings, which are slightly rough.

It's an excellent build of quality. People on youtube thing ballvalves with springs on them are super advanced airguns. Again, welcome to spudfiles and enjoy your stay

However, we do have forum drunks which regularly PUI (post under intoxication).

I'm learning a lot from SF. thanks for the compliments.

I've abandoned this plan (m72a2) becuase I want to build something more complicated and not related to real steel weapons. What I have in mind is more like something I found in Anime. I want to build a cannon I saw on an Evangelion action figure. I'll leave it there till i have a working prototype by next summer. I did not know how to go about it till I found this place. Now I have a very good idea of how to make it work.

Wow!!!, nice job= I love it mate I was looking at this and reading the construction details as I wanted to make one but sadly looks like I cant because I'd never be able to get a Madbull Airsoft Grenade into Australia  .
