A QEV pilot would certainly increase performance to some extent, particularly if mounted next to the piston.

well the power of this type of gun depends greatly on the quality of build and the pressure. this gun at 150 psi is a lil bit below average power for a .22cal air gun. now up that pressure to say 300 and you start getting into better gun velocities. 550psi is pretty damn strong especialy with heavy slugs

jsr: the qev would replace the elbow that is right on the piston housing so i think it will be close enough :)

Considering that your average 30-35ft/lb commercial air rifle is running on 3000-2000 psi it says a lot about the efficiency of the valves we use compared to hammer valves, though of course they get a multi-shot capability.

Pretty much, that should give you near burst disk performance :)

i made a bunch of lead slugs today. i also made some new ammo. it consists of a longer than normal lead slug with a 1/8inch music wire in the middle thats 1/2inch long. i shot it at some .04in thick sheetmetal and got some impressive results at 550psi.

thanks man.

not 5 minutes after i posted this i learned that 1/4inch bearings will do the same thing at lower pressure, bigger hole, and i dont have to make them. either way it still takes alot of power to shoot throught it!

A fairly obvious notion, nature will always take the path of least resistance and in the case of the lead projectile, it is easier for the imapct energy to go into deforming the projectile than penetrating the target.

Right on. But can i say this, does that always apply to lighter projectiles moving at a higher speed?

yes sandman. a harder ammo will always penetrate better than a soft one of similar weight

Assuming the same size and velocity, the heavier projectile will slow down at a lower rate and therefore penetrate further. Hardness is still a factor though, if firing at a hard medium such as steel sheet. An easy comparison is the difference between lead and steel 0.177 BBs. In a relatively soft medium like ballistic gelatin, the lead BB will penetrate further than the steel one at normal velocities as there is insufficient resistance to deform it. The opposite is true for harder media.

None of you answered my question though. I was asking if a lighter projectile moving at a higher speed would do more damage. Then i realized the stupidity of my question and ended it there. Anyways, is there any cnace you might change to fiber optic sights or a red dot or maybe even a 4x32 air rifle scope? Also you should try finned darts and see what kind of range and accuracy you can get out of this sucker lol
