Lordy lordy, Schedule 40

So, this is my first spud gun. Mentioned it briefly in the pneumatic discussion forum, the paint is more or less done though, so, here it is.

Still needs some tweaking with the looks, but, functions great.

Also, the name, I just came up with that on the fly. Pay no mind. :?

Pretty standard sprinkler valve pneumatic. 36" x 1.5" tank, 48" x 1" barrel. Actuated by a toggle valve.

All xirtec140 sch 40 PVC.

Wood parts are rock maple with a bit of stain and lacquer.

Holy- :)

Nice! That paint looks good and blends well with the steel hardware used for the barrel brace (hose clamp) and attaching the pistol grip.

Nice pilot valve, too. Is that a three-way DCV?

Only thing I can possibly think of as far as suggestions is that you probably should have cut the connecting piece of pipe between those elbows shorter so that they butted up together flush. Not a major concern, though.

Nice job again, hope to see more down the road.

I really like it!! the paint and the pistol grip complement each other in contrast. The trigger is nice too, good job.

This is being petty, but what if you added a foregrip out of the same wood as the pistol grip?

What is your ammo going to be?

Good job!!

Thanks. :D

I feel the same way about the piece between the elbows, but... c'est la vie.

The 3 way valve has the sprinkler honking a little, now that I mounted it in the handle. It wasn't before I assembled it all.

The out port on it flows down through the bottom of the handle, I think I may need to split the flow into channels, not just the one.

Anyway, I'm building a bunch of 1" wood dowel slugs (kind of Fosterish...)

Maybe some damage pics/vids the next day or two?

Also, found a dude selling 27mm glow in the dark rubber balls on ebay... by the box of 546.

That might be fun eh?

you could also use a screw and bolt with washers to make some serious slugs :).

Nothing beats a good old fashioned wooden grip. And a uniform routed round-over to boot! I'm pleased.

As mark said, you probably could have built more for compactness by shortening that joining pipe, but it's not a big deal considering this is your first build.

The paint does look good, and I trust that it is intended for use on plastics. I'm more a fan of flat black next to wood grain.

Yeah, it's a multipurpose/surface paint.

Initially I was going to go for a matte black or a dark metallic bronze look.

The reason I opted for the brighter look was I didn't want the sun beating down on it to overheat the plastic.

Yeah, I know, it's pretty anal retentive, but, I'm still happy.

Very nicely put together, you've managed to make a "standard" over/under sprinkler valve cannon look great :) videos!

Awesome

How much psi do you usually put in?

100 PSI, generally.

I'm working on a design for uniform, stabilized projectiles (and a method to produce them en masse). Nothing fancy, but more pop than a chunk of potato, more penetration that a straight dowel slug, and higher FPS than bolts/washers.

We'll see how that turns out.

Since your barrel is threaded you could replace it with a 3/4" one and use Co2 capsule slugs. The power will blow your mind!

.....or use saboted CO2 caps. The power will make you go Image

thats what i use. they work great.

Just be warned.. every once in a while you will receive 20mm balls labeled as 27mm. its annoying.

I like that name, dont change it! It kinda fits... But if you can, try upgrading it to c02 or something for more power. Of course I know nothing about c02 but yeah... Nice job on it!
