i had a hard time deciding what to name my cannon. i love the movie scarface but i just cant name the cannon "my little friend". so i turned to my favorite movie of all time, "pulp fiction". if anyone remembers what was branded on samuel l. jacksons character "jules' " wallet they will fully understand what B.M.F. stands for. enough on that lets get to the good stuff.

all aluminum designed cannon. coaxial style with 2:1 chamber/barrel ratio. 1 inch o.d. and .800 inch i.d. barrel. 3 inch o.d. and 2.5 inch i.d. chamber. the piston is made of uhmw plastic with two o-ring. dimensions for the piston are 1.625 inches in length and 2.496 diameter. there is .800 inches of chamber length behind the piston when the barrel is sealed. the end cap has 1/8 rubber gasket to seal and is attached to the chamber with eight 1/4 20 socket head bolts. the bumper is out of a pneumatic rivet gun. it has a bunch of protruding nipples to help further absorb shock from the piston. the pilot is vented thru a 3/4 inch QEV. the qev is actuated by a highly modded airgun.

the airgun was disassembled completely. i machined all new larger valve components. the air outlet past the valve was opened up to 1/2 inch. i welded on a piece of 3/4 inch solid bar as a barrel to make it look like a 50 caliber pistol. the handle was sleeved by a piece of oak wood that i milled out.


in the pictures you will see two other piston designs. the two on the right form one hollow piston. it has the total length of 1.875 which reduces pilot volume. the other piston is 1 inch in length which adds pilot volume but is much lighter. beside the pistons are three pieces of grey foam. they all vary in size and density. i interchange them behind the piston to adjust volume. now on to the cool stuff...ammo.

with the barrel i.d. at .800 it will accept a wine bottle cork perfectly for wadding. the aluminum bullets you see are cnc machined to a diameter of .7975 inches. the also have rifleing grooves machined in them .010 depth. it may be hard to see in the pics but they are there. the lathe isnt big enough to do a barrel so i rifled the ammo. the lengths are 1.75 and 2.25. testing the gun today i put a 3/8 bolt thru a cork. shooting it a 150 psi sent it clear thru a 2x10 piece of wood. have not tried the bullets yet. i have to get some barrel butter so i dont scratch the barrel. should be able to test bullets this weekend and post some video. the simulated RPG is for asthetic purposes. it does however work perfect for muzzle loading the corks.

I really like the stencil job on that, although I would stay away from any airports with that thing. How do other people in your area react to seeing that? Or do you keep it out of sight?

yeah. i definitely would get a visit from the a.t.f. if i took that any where near an airport. i try to limit its public exposure, but its just too darn fun to play with.
