The STINGER

here for your viewing enjoyment is my new high pressure golf ball
accelerator named "the stinger". chamber is a firefighters air tank rated to 2216 psi. barrelis 72 inch long piece of aluminum pipe with 1/2 inch thick walls.
t-valve is 2.5 inch pipe with .250 wall thickness. all flanges are made of
.5 inch thick plate. porting is exactly 2.000 inch. piston is made from a
solid piece of billet alum. 6061t6. machined to the hourglass shape.
3/16 inch thick rubber sheet bolted on the piston with a compression washer for the barrel sealing end. 3/8 thick rubber cemented on the back
of the piston for the bumper. pilot dumped with 3/4 ball valve.

i have tested up to 150 psi with great results. golf balls are hard to see
go. i have a 300 psi compressor on the way. it should easily handle that. all the
welds were tig welded by an expert aluminum welder. all welds were
a minimum 3/8 thick beads. all flanges are o-ring sealed and bolted with
5/16 bolts. piston is servicable and barrel is removable.

will hopefully post video next week of the stinger after i get the 300psi
pump and i make some multiple sheet plywood targets.
it really is alot of fun now at 150.

next project is an aluminum welding tank with 4 time cubic inches volume
of the stingers chamber. plan to shoot softballs with it.

*******update*******

shot some video of the stinger today. still working on the 300+ psi setup.
heres the links below. was shooting between 100 and 145 psi. distance to target was about 15 feet. golf balls went easily through 4 sheets of 1/2 inch plywood. could hear them richocheting off tree behind the target. last shot hit the ply where there was a 1 inch thick backing board. went clean through that which is a 1 and 1/2 penetrating round. my six year old grandson shot the vids. he did pretty well for six. hope you enjoy as much as he did.

now imagine the power at lets say 300 psi?

hopefully my compressor will arrive in the next few days so i wont have to just imagine 300 psi anymore. it will become a reality.

Wohohoho! That is beautiful, astounding, amazing and supreme (I'm talking about your beard here :D )
Great cannon though, it looks like a really well made, potent piece of machinery you've got there. Looks like you definitely did all your research on this one, which is great.
Looking foward to seeing more great cannons from you in the future

anyway, great cannon. i found one of those oxygen tanks for old people at the thrift store but it was heavy as hell :(

Did it have a regulator on it?

That is so awsome I can't even think of a word for it yet. I like how the oxygen tank is painted to look like a hornet. A++ for you!

it should, or we would have old person brains all over the place.
I didnt get the chance to look because I knocked over a bunch of vaccumes and the store dude was pissed.

Do you have a mig welder and a metal lathe, or did you send some parts off to a machine shop?

edit: oooh tig welds..mmm those are nice and strong

I have a mig welder that im using as of now, and if i get good enough with it might build a metal cannon (i have a metal cutting bandsaw as well)

Ooh-ooh! I love it.  Very clean look; though you really can't make an ugly gun out of metal even if you wanted to. Man, I gotta make friends with a machinist!
