Mark IIIi Commando, improved



Hi guys, long time no see. Just wanted to drop in and see what's going on here on the ol' SpudFiles.
I haven't been up to much (lots of work, no time to play with my lathe ).

It would be rude to not let you guys see pics of my most recent BBMG, of course. Operationally, it's nothing unique, but it is a pretty well put together gun if I do say so myself.

Once again, it's a commissioned piece (the first of two, done at the same time), in the same spirit as the Mark III Commando --with several improvements. The magazine holds ~500 more BBs, the hopup is better contained, the stock allows faster reloading, and it has three accessory mounting rails ready to go.

Awesome gun dude! Ahh the flamethrower as people nicknamed it.

Anyway did you ever think of selling your ideas to major airsofting companies, cause they'd be astonished, you'd make a lot of money.

I was looking though your diagrams for this gun and saw that you were using a full circle vortex block as opposed to the semi circular one touted by others. Just wondering if you have ever tried a semi circular vortex block.

But, great gun excellent construction kudos to you.

Awesome! My only critique is that the pipe that connects the air hose to the trigger looks like it could get in the way of the hand, and could use a little more support, so as not to put stress on that rather thin pipe. Other than that, it looks great!

Thats pretty cool, i love the look of the foregrip.

Looks splendid! You have to look pretty hard to see evidence of "plumbing" parts. Really professional, functional and beautiful work!

I like the detail work on the barrel/arrestor and the practical rail mounts.

It looks great. Personally i'd go for a different look, forward grip, longer barrel with a smaller, different shroud and a more discrete air/CO2 hookup.

But that's just me, you've done a great job and I have huge respect for your work.

hey, that looks REALLY familiar, i wonder why?
It took over two months to iron out details and actual building time, but I'm the one that now owns the Mk III(i) (woohoo!)

I used it in CQB just this passed weekend. It was absolutely amazing.
Everyone wanted "the guy with the flamethrower" on their team. It got kind of old explaining how BBMGs work though.

I should be either posting my own pics/videos or sending them to neospud in the very near future.

It now has a BSA red dot on the top rail and a folding vertical grip on the bottom rail. I haven't decide what to do with the rail on the right side. any suggestions?
here's a pic of it with the red dot. I just put the vert grip on, so I don't have that pic yet


it only has about an 8" barrel, so only shoots about 200 fps, but gets out about 100/s at 90 psi and shoots up to 100 yards (w/ hopup) It also has a fairly good grouping.

For anyone who's seen neospud's video about the Mk II, I highly suggest asking CQB fields for the bbs they sweep up. While at Airsoft CQB in Virginia, I picked up an estimated 400,000 bbs. I wouldn't dare use them in my AEG, but they'll do rather nicely in the Commando.

Any other questions, shoot me (or neospud) a message. I'd be more than happy to indulge more on it, and I'm sure he wouldn't mind either.

Actually, I'm working on that right now. After building a few flame throwers and about 200 "grenades" (improved versions of the cardboard tube style firecracker grenade, with a reusable plastic shell instead of cardboard), I figured that I should get into this on a bigger scale. I'm currently working on an M2A1-7 replica that I'll be pitching to several companies, and may just produce it myself if no one bites. It'll be a while, though, because that one's getting a patent for sure. I'm also conjuring up a kit for demil-ed AT-4 tubes to turn them into nerf rocket launchers, and an effective airsoft mortar. The prototype kit works well, but I'm not satisfied with the range just yet; I need to put a tighter barrel in it and make the valve faster.

I played around with half-vortexes and whatnot in 2005-6, and didn't really care for them. If there's any empirical evidence that they're better, I'd love to see it.

I know it looks kinda shaky, but it's actually quite strong. That pipe is 1/8" NPT brass, and due to the really solid bedding it has in the grip, it doesn't move at all. You'd have to hold it to see.

Man, it's been a while since I've heard that handle.
I'll try to keep up a bit, but I won't make any promises. Work sucks.

I prefer a longer barrel as well, but do remember that it was a commissioned piece, so it had to fit specific criteria. I'm with you on the more discrete air connection... I'm limited in options by the number of submini pneumatic valves that are less than 40 bucks each. If you know of a website with lots of tiny air valves (other than McMaster), let me know.

It's hard keeping up around here. Just this past March, I had a great idea for a Bullpup UI, which I would release as the Mark IV. I couldn't start work on it until June, by which time I found that a month earlier David Vaini had beaten me to it! I died a little inside

I would add a laser to the open accessory rail.

I thought about that, but then realized it's kind of superfluous to have a grenade launcher type mechanism on a bbmg, and a laser doesn't do much except add to the look because of the larger grouping of the bbs. I was thinking flashlight, but thought I might have overlooked something else that would be useful, hence the question.
