Epoxy Vortex BBMG

This is my first bb gun and I decided to make it a vortex gun. I decided to use this over a cloud design because of the fact that it is more efficient with air, and also it was more of a challenge to build.
It has a rifled barrel from a pellet rifle, so it is extremely accurate, for being something that shoots at a ridiculously fast rate.
The Vortex block is made out of epoxy, I chose to do this because, first i haven't heard of it being done, and also because I figured it was probably the next strongest thing to metal. btw it works great i have fired over 30,000 to 40,000 bb's out of it and it hasn't shown any wear, only gray lines that rub off with your finger, so I guess it is actually the bb's that are wearing.
I am not going to take credit from this design, however I did improve it numerous ways. If you would like to see the original design you can see it here http://www.burntlatke.com/bb.html. If you have any questions about how I built this gun you can message me, but I don't check this site too often so don't be mad if I don't reply instantly  .

Here are some pictures of the finished gun:

Sorry I forgot to take pictures while I was building it.....Stupid..... so I don't have any pictures of the epoxy vortex block.

rifling does nothing fro spherical projectiles, you want back spin just to let you know. that is a really clean gun thought and very impressive for a first build. you should make an inline next! that or some sweet pneumatic

To add backspin, you could put a tiny piece of rubber at the end of the barrel. But it would be quite hard to get it just right with such a small, light projectile.
Other than that, it looks great. And the epoxy vortex block sounds pretty sweet. Did you build it up, or cast it?

singularity - I would like to make an inline vortex block for my next gun, any ideas?

pyrogeek - I actually took and cut a 2" long piece of 2" pvc and filled it with epoxy, surprisingly it only took 3 tubes of 5 min epoxy to make it, unfortunately i had to make it twice. When i was mixing it I wasn't paying attention and i mixed it for about 8 min, well this was good and bad. the good part was that it made a great looking block, the bad part was that i stopped mixing it for about 10 seconds to talk to someone and in that time it set up with my stick still in it  . I guess if you're mixing it, it will not cure until it stops moving. oh well the second one was just fine

Looks pretty good, I'd highly recommend an inline for your next gun.

Yes it does - the first rifles used spherical ammunition and it took quite a while before someone came up with a cylindrical bullet.

What I do question is how effective rifling is with steel BBs as they are undersized for 0.177 barrels and don't actually bite into the lands of a rifled barrel - using lead BBs however you should be sailing, you'll get a higher muzzle energy due to the heavier projectiles too.

Very nicely done toad :D though for the record, my Standalone Project used an epoxy vortex that was cast in a sheet ply mould

Nice use of epoxy. I might make a vortex out of epoxy once I run out of solid pvc rod. Do you use a magnet to pick up your bbs and re-use them?

It looks really good, well done. What are the main changes you made to the original burntlakte design?
Otherwise, well done and good job, just paint it

Nice gun man, great job. If it possible though, switch out the barrel for a smoothbore, all the rifling is doing is allowing air to pass by it, it decreases performance a bit (good choice on the barrel, the pellet gun barrels have always been my first choice).

And just so people know, the original strafer design came from this website, we havent actually seen the insides of the original strafer design, we just kinda worked it out (props to spudsonfire BTW, he did most of it)

Anywho, great job on the gun man.

Or he could change ammunition and take advantage of the rifling
