You already posted the same thing. People have posted this before and people always say the same thing. You could damage the fitting in the process of that and then it could fail when you use it again. So I wouldn't recommend doing that.

This could lead to loss of integrity to the fitting. Bad stuff.

just buy a shiny new fitting for a few bucks and save yourself a crappy recycled part.

Best way is to cut the pipe off and then bore out the pipe very accurately on (ideally) a mill.

Why? would you even do that you may bore out too much and still it's just better to buy a new one.

I'm thinking for fittings around 4", which when your the other side of the pond they cost a bomb.

And if your careful then you won't bore out too much.

They make a tool you put in a drill and it drills out the fitting like what you're doing. I'm sure someone on here has seen or used one of them before, they're rather slick.
