As far as I know, acetylene is not very readily available to the public, you have to buy it from a welding shop. That is where my high school shop gets it, anyway. Speaking of school shop, every year in Metal class the teacher fills 2 balloons, one with acetylene, and one with a mixture of acetylene and pure oxygen. It is intended to demonstrate the effect a powerful oxidizer has on a fuel/air mix. We tie the balloons to the end of a wooden pole and hold it over a propane torch. People get quite the surprise when the 2nd one goes off.

Just take the bottle with the cap on, take the two ends of the bottle, (one in each hand), and then twist. Twist it into an hourglass shape until you can't twist it anymore because of the pressure, and then loosen the cap just slightly. Then, flick off the cap and it does the same thing, except quieter. Good thing to do if you don't have a bike pump at school with you.
We do that too... in fact I've got a video somewhere of us shooting the cap off. great way to annoy the administration at your school. lol

please edit or delete your post regarding that device.
i know that you may or may not be a responsible adult, but i know that there are alot of twelve or thirteen yearolds that browse this forum, and although something like that is very cool(i know from experience) it is prohibited from the rules for a reason and just apoligising for it will not fix the problem; something like this could be dangerous or even lethal in the hands of someone not mature or responsable enough to handle something with its power. when these things detonate the happen to spray a corrosive liquid all over the place which will cause chemical burns or blindness if it gets in someones eyes, and that could result against a civil suit against PCGUY if a parent of a blinded child finds out about where they got this information.
so...............delete your post!!!!!!!!

ProfessorAmadeus wrote:Its fun and the five pumps thing is a saftey measure. The one that I exploded was on purpose in contained very safe conditions. It was barried 2 feet below ground in a 6in pipe filled with dirt and had a wheel barrel as another safety cover. It took 105 psi or something like that before it blew. This means that I did the experiment so that you didnt have to. With five pumps on my valve its creates ~ 30 psi. Just be safe and dont losea hand. :)

Wow.. you took a lot of safety precautions,i did something like this not to long ago.I put a shrader valve in an old alchahol bottle and filled it with an 8 gallon air compressor and blew it up in my hand, took less than 1 second, the only thing it hurt was my ears simply because i was in a closed garage and i didn't exactly mean for it to blow up in my hand. But the rupture didn't hurt my hand, that doesn't mean i think you should go out and try it.

Oh and the idea of an all pyro page.. Im all for it!
