And to think that i almost forgot your specs

Springfield M1A Built by Tactical Armorer TROY M14 Modular Chassis w/ all mounting hardware Magpul Precision Rifle Stock TangoDown rear BattleGrip Black MCS-SASS-BLK, Harris adjustable bipod BSA 6x24x40 Mil Dot Rect Scope with Sun Shade, LaRue Tactical Throw Lever Mount Houge Tactical Pistol Grip National Match Trigger, Troy Platform Information CNC-machined from a solid billet of 6061-T6 aluminum and is designed to significantly enhance all combat-relevant aspects, including reliability, accuracy, and tactical accessory-mounting capability. Interestingly, the M14/M1A MCS allows for a lower bore axis, placing the barrel in direct line with the shooter's shoulder, just like an AR-15/M16 variant rifle or SOPMOD M4/M4A1 Carbine, providing a straight-line (a.k.a. in-line) recoil impulse and reduced muzzle rise and muzzle climb for enhanced control, yielding more hits on target, especially during rapid-fire strings against multiple and moving targets. The MCS, of course, features an integral Mil-Std-1913 "Picatinny" Quad Rail / Forend Rail tube for mounting tactical rifle accessories, including combat optics, lasers, tactical white lights, vertical foregrips, etc. The top rail is a full-length rail.

if slowly letting out the gases is "silencing" why not just drill a tiny hole near the start of the barrel, wouldnt this let out the gas?

That would cause you to lose most of your power.

Generally, you don't want a hole in your barrel, which is why manufacturers make purpose-made silencers.

if anyone takes a look at the new SPR rifles that are developed here in florida for the spec ops teams, there silencers are at the end of the barrel(obviously) and there are no longer any holes that are on the larger pipe at all, i have no idea how there made, just no there are no out holes and it suppresses fine

yes, it would let the gases out. That is exactly the reason we use barrels, rather than just a valve. To keep the air in, rather than out. The point of a silencer is to let the air out slowly, AFTER it has done all of it's work on the projectile.

i think i get it now, the air goes into the larger pipe, almost like a chamber, and then once the projectile leaves the barrel the barrel is no longer sealed and the pressure inside the silencer is more than in the barrel, so the gas slowly goes out of the holes in the barrel smart.

Exactly, more importantly the gas leaves the barrel at lower pressure than it would have if the silencer wasn't there.

Simply adding a hole to the barrel without a chamber in which the gasses would expand would simply make it louder.

In case of any further doubts, How silencers work ;)

how about having a single row of holes about 10cms from the end of the barrel? would this let the gasses out without looseing mass amounts of power???

cane toad + spud gun + brick wall = red rain

That would act as a muzzle brake though, not a silencer - it would reduct power slightly and recoil, but not noise.

While the culling of cane toads is important, the discussion of shooting animals with spudguns is against the forum rules

Besides, you don't want to end up like the legendary frog boy would you? :D

There is an easy way - use a longer barrel/smaller chamber.

I heard someone say M1 .30 carbine!

I honestly love mine (a genuine NPM government issue!), my dad got it for 39 bucks from a friend about 20-30 years ago. I'm the only one that shoots it. Even though the cartridge is a tad underpowered (though it's really not as bad as they say) a well placed shot will easily take down a man. It's size, weight, and accuracy make it my personal favorite rifle for tactical rifle matches (my only alternatives are a .45 ACP carbine or a heavy-as-sin IMI Galil), and if it came to it, home defense.

The only problem is that the ammo is getting expensive. Otherwise, it's a great gun.
