Here is a proposed RPG look alike for pneumatic cannons with 2 inch bore.

its not worth it unless you find a way to give its a smoke trail, and what would be the point of a parachute? isn't it suppose to impact something and then explode? also if your going to put a camera in it its going to need to wistand a lot of Gs. one last thing i don't think RPGs whistle when the are fired i though they made more of a burning noise

sure no doubt it would look cool but the cost and the chance of never seeing it again is a bit too high. why not use nerf darts ?

I've always wondered if a lightweight rocket could be effectively deployed with the use of a 12g. The 12g will act as an engine for the RPG, leaving a smoke trail (for effects) and actually making an RPG just that, a rocket propelled grenade. This would also make the ammo reusable, just replace the 12g and fire it again.

This type would require a special cannon of course, but there would be no need for pumping or sparking.

well from past experiments the cartridge itself does not contain enough energy to propel itself. maybe with heavy modifications you could get one to fly a few feet but it would most likely put you in extreme danger.

I spend a lot of time making model rockets as well (the Estes jobs at first and now my own designs). You have a good idea but like some other replys have mentioned you are looking at a semi high cost for something that you have a good chance of destroying or losing.

I have been succesful in adding streamer and parachute recovery to tennis balls. The hardest thing is getting the recovery system to open later in flight and not pop out three feet out of the gun and slow the projectile down too early. Your best bet might be actual model rocketry stuff with balsa or basswood nose cones that will pull loose at the end of flight. Another thing to consider is actually building a launcher that will fire a real model rocket that looks like an RPG and the solid fuel rocket engine will detonate at the end and deploy a recovery system. But then we have steered away from a launcher again.

Also, as a side note, I have had actual RPGs fired at me during my time in our glorious Air Force. They do not whistle or screech during flight, so for realism, and to keep your butt out of prison, you might want to think about dropping that little point. Neighbors are likely to think you have a real RPG and call the cops on you.

HILLARITY!!!!!!

And he said that mortars do whistle, and they do, but I ask why are we talking about mortars? Then I realize he's been kicking topics all day.

agreed, very nicely done! It would look extremely realistic with a coat of olive drab and some approrpiate stencilling.

oh, and props for taking the trouble of taking a photo with a plain cardboard backdrop instead of detailing the contents of your living room :)
