Watch these things go really really far at night and wait for a report.

And a visual burst of color.

That is pretty cool. Looks like a lot of work, but I bet it would make a really cool splat.

Have you actually done it?

Yeah but real small scale. just like a small otmato like half of the one in vid. I know it glows for a loong time so you could potentially mix a gallon at a time.

My question is: if you got that stuff on clothing, would it wash off?

Hydrogen Peroxide is (or was at least) used for bleaching hair, and many other things.
It can be purchased at some supermarkets and at all chemists.
The strength might vary though, however it is possible to make it stronger (remove water from it).

Edit: Redcoat, i tried to access your website but nothing happenend, ideas?

Hence the expression "peroxide blonde" :)

It's usually at about 6% strength from the chemist, I have 20% in the lab :D and I'm trying to figure out which phosphorus compound I can use...

JSR, can you elaborate at all as to what would be the easiest way to remove the water from the solution?
Would simple evaporation work?

IIRC it boils at around 150ºC so it would be possible to evaporate the water, but personally I wouldn't be comfortable boining something that is a component of rocket fuel

edit: wiki seems to agree
Many amateurs try distillation, but this is extremely dangerous with hydrogen peroxide; peroxide vapor can ignite or detonate depending on specific combinations of temperature and pressure. In general any boiling mass of high concentration hydrogen peroxide at ambient pressure will produce vapor phase hydrogen peroxide which can detonate. This hazard is mitigated, but not entirely eliminated with vacuum distillation. Other approaches for concentrating hydrogen peroxide are sparging and fractional crystallization.

The peroxide I can buy from Woolworthes is 3%I'll get a picture up so you know what to look for.

I can't seem to find it now I'll probably go out to the shed tomorrow and find it sitting on the edge of a table over an open tin of acetone and sulphuric acid solution.

The bottle is small about the size of a Tooheys New or Bundy Throw down size bottle it is yellow/brown bottle with a yellow/brown label saying Peroxide,it's found in the medication section of Woolworthes along with lye, glycerin etc.

From woollies? You serious? Now all I need is a non-safety match, or will normal matches work?

Thanks,
Poo.

As a chemistry student I can say that this is dangerous and could go very wrong...
