a couple good ammos for 1/2" type L copper

Just thought I would share in case anyone could use a little info. I was reading about all these marble snipers everyone is building so I decided to make one...the link to the project thread....

Anyways, I bought a bag of play marbles at a local store and went off to home depot and menards to see what they would fit in nicely. I was under the impression that there was a common size pipe that they fit into nicely. well I found nothing. Maybe in other countries there is a common pipe they fit nicely I don't know. So I just decided to build a cannon and find out what would work for ammo. I ended up using 1/2" type l copper pipe for the barrel.

The ammo I have found so far that works well is..
<1>. 1/2" glass marbles slingshot ammo from the sporting goods store with greased patches made of an old t-shirt.

<2>.535 54 caliber lead round ball muzzleloader ammo with a piece of greased dryer sheet as a patch.

<3> I'm not sure the size or part number but they are orange wire nuts and they fit almost perfectly and already have the hollow back.

<4> foam ear plugs. Quite handy for 2 reasons. one.. easier to talk the lady into letting you fire them in the house (until you accidently underestimate the power and put a dent in the sheetrock..hehe) and two, no ram rod needed, you just roll them up and drop them down and let em expand.

<5> and this isn't really an ammo, but my step dad gave me some plastic sabots for a 50 cal muzzle loader that make perfect sabots after burnishing them out a little bit. I would imagine you could get a box of em' at a sporting goods store or gun shop.

And here is a pic of how I did it.. I just used the end of my leatherman handle but anything like it that is smooth and round like the handle would work. I was actually holding the sabot in my hand when I did it, but I needed my hands to hold the camera. Just push on it and twist it around to stretch out the rim. 54 cal. sabots would probably work better but I havn't purchased any to test out yet and these were free so...
