To JSR and all of the other epoxy lovers:
Here is some info on the health effects of Bisphenol A, a major component of epoxies and the like. Just one more reason to always wear gloves when handling it, and if you ever sand it, do it outside with a full respirator (preferably a full face gas mask) and an industrial fan/vacuum.
Do not look back, and grieve over the past, for it is gone;
Do not be troubled about the future, for it has not yet come;
Live life in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering.

You need the respirator W/2 canisters on the sides.
Epoxies are not strong smelling but still toxic, Polyester resin is strong smelling and not as toxic

Wow, i need to take more precautions. I dont wear anything when i cast epoxy and i had that crap all over my hands :shock: I spent 2 hours in the garage sanding down and cutting the epoxy with a hacksaw. Will those regular doctor masks work?

A respirator will work fine, but there are military full face gas masks out there that are also somewhat bullet proof, which could be useful when testing your spudguns, in case they go boom.

Good thing I've always been a fan of using threaded fittings and compression. I've never liked epoxy and reading that article was the last nail in the coffin so to speak :D.

Nah that's a bit of a lie... I can't solder so I saw this epoxy down at my car auto shop that says "The best substitute for welding" and it's only 9 bucks AUD! :D I'll definately have to try it, and get the same brand in epoxy puddy to try and cast myself a piston out of it.

Good article, thanks for posting that.

The only thing I've ever used expoy in large quantities for is when I used to be in High-Power Rocketry. It's been a few years, so pretty much its only use for me is for plugging up sprinkler valves.

OH MY GOD

JSR IS DOOMED!!!

Everyone should take safety precautions when handling or around any hazardous substance. I don't mean excessive protection, just be mindful and use your common sense.

On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero

Between epoxy and smoking I should be covered then :roll: :D

Don't forget the boozes there JSR.

Well I got the booze, the smokes, the epoxy, the battery acid (in my eye), the inhalation of PVC dust, ingestion of hazardous chemicals, beef three times a day (colon cancer anyone?), driving fast and reckless, garage fires at least once a week and at least one person with a death threat against me... so I'm defiantly covered.

Still, interesting article. Seems like now days everything can kill you.

Yeah and everything seems to give you some sort of cancer too :(

Oh well, may as well make the most of it :D

Not sure what this has to do with anything but it's still a good quote that sums up most people, if you think about it:
There is something about yourself that you don't know. Something that you will deny even exists, until it's too late to do anything about it. It's the only reason you get up in the morning. The only reason you suffer the shitty puss, the blood, the sweat and the tears. This is because you want people to know how good, attractive, generous, funny, wild and clever you really are. Fear or revere me, but please, think I'm special. We share an addiction. We're approval junkies. We're all in it for the slap on the back and the gold watch. The hip-hip-hoo-fuckin' rah. Look at the clever boy with the badge, polishing his trophy. Shine on you crazy diamond, because we're just monkeys wrapped in suits, begging for the approval of others

Well done! I love that movie but a lot of people hate it.

Mainly because it's very hard to understand what's going on at the end, so people get confused and end up not liking it.
