any suggestions for a 4" barrel?

Ive got an idea brewing in my head to make one of the largest pneumatic cannons ive ever seen, including a 18' 4" sch 40 barrel. Problem is that I am having trouble thinking of things to shoot out of it. All I have come up with so far is a 2x4 with a sabot at the end and rubber snakes set in some ballistics gelatin (part of a tradition at my school to build a snake killing machine for st. patrick's day). apart from those two and making my own out of either concrete or ice, i am stumped on this one. any suggestions would be appreciated.

I think 2 liter soda bottles are 4 in diameter.

Wow, thats going to be big...

If you actually end up making this cannon, be sure to talk it over on the forums. Because I would hate to see you build this massive cannon and slap on a sprinkler valve or something.

As to ammo, water, dirt, stuff you dont want anymore.

i think DR fires hunts bean cans filled with concrete out of his 4" hybrid cannon, try that.

as for a valves, i am thinking dual 3" piston valves actuated by modified sprinkler valves, if that sounds sufficient (if i calculated right, i need 20 feet of 6" pipe for air tanks, i want them empty in a hell of a hurry). i will make sure to take lots of pictures of the build process and plenty of pictures and video of it kicking ass.

Two words, Large Fruit. Watermelons, canteloupe, and pumpkins. Big water-balloons.

not a bad idea with the fruit, but my little gun makes apple sauce at the end of the barrel. if i shoot an apple straight up in the air, i get dime sized pieces back on the ground (at 125 psi). i cant really see bigger fruits fareing any better in a gun as big as i am wanting to make, but i will give it a try none the less.

You know those propane canisters they sell at walmart, the green ones? Fill the empties with concrete!

The best option is to go around with a wafer of 4" pipe, and just check anything that looks enticing.
(and incidentaly, 2L soda bottles don't fit)

From my understanding - a gun of that size you will not need to use pressures of 125psi to have some serious power behind your projectiles.
A working pressure of 80psi would hold enough air in your 20' tank to send a mellon or pumpkin a fair distance without make fruit smoothies and pie out of them - use a higher pressure for solid ammo!!!!

even at 80 psi, i think watermellon would be mush, but maybe a grape fruit or something. i will have to start testing things for fit.

me and my partners (this gun will be a joint effort as it is too expensive for any of us to build alone) are going to start building soon as we get our tax returns back later this month. hopefully, i will be able to put up some pictures as we go.

ok thanks for the info. I was also wondering the same thing about the 4 inch barrel. Right now my cannon has two 6 foot long,4 inch diameter chambers.im going to cut them off and replace them with 5 or 6 foot long 6 inch chambers, then get a 15 foot long 4 inch barrel.I already got a 10 foot one,but not quite enough air chamber to be very powerful.lots o fun
