Well the auction's price just changed to $22 per foot, which is quite a bit more than I'd like to spend, so this is off the table for now.

I'll just keep my eyes peeled for some pipe at construction sites or maybe I'll call a couple local plumbing places to see if they would be willing to sell me a shorter length.

"Dude"... This thread is like 1 month old and I still care! I've got a length of 10" PVC in my garage and was plannong on starting another basketball cannon, tomorrow.

I've been kicking around ideas on how to make a trunion mount for this one, as the "end cap" will be securely fastened to the pipe.

Anyone STILL interested in this type of cannon, please feel free to ask questions, as I've built a number of basketball cannons, in the past.

@DR
Where did you get your pipe from? Was it a store or a construction site?

I'd still like to give this a try, but without breaking the bank. So far I haven't seen any pipe at any of the construction sites around me but I'm keeping an eye out...

I found it in a ditch, 30 feet away from the edge of the parking lot, where I used to work! It was partially exposed and cracked badly, for only about 2 feet of the pipe.

The pipe I have in the garage is approx. 40 inches long and has an inner diameter of 244mm, near as I can tell.

A regulation-size men's basketball is 9.39 inches in diameter, which will leave a gap of approx. 1/8", all the way around the ball... Too bad the wall thickness is too large, to sleeve the barrel portion, with just another split length of pipe.

10" SCH80 would be the most ideal for a Baketball Cannon, but would cost me around 360 bucks, for a 20 foot length.

I have another piece of this pipe in a storage unit, which is probably around 7-8 feet long. Great thing about this type of build, is that the piece I have in storage, would easily make 2-3 more cannons.

Sad thing, is that the outer walls of the pipe are badly scratched, so a smooth-finish paint job would be out of the question. This is why I painted my last small one with some "hammered-finish" paint.

Can't remember what I did with that one? - I think I gave it away to someone at a Las Vegas "spudmeet", years ago... I'll be damned if I can remember his name though... I'm getting old. :cry:
