Sabot, has anyone tried it yet?

I just started plinking around with pneumatics again and love it just as much as before, best way to kill boredom and night sleep due to hard thought on how to make something.

I was into penetrator rounds with sabots earlier and flooded the forum with posts on the subject. I ran into problems with my hybrid before I got to try what I think was my best design so I wonder if anyone else saw my diagram and tested the design. And if not, is anyone with a 1.5"+ bore interested in testing it for me?

I hope I can find a new gauge to get my hybrid operational again soon!

Good design, I might try some of these in my mini.
I will also have a read through the topic you linked to as it slipped through my fingers -_-

How do you feel about making a prototype of the design I have above? I know you are the right man for the job as it involved casting :)

Thanks

It's pretty much what I had suggested to you here :D

I still think the fullbore fin design is the best approach.

Casting is so last year, it seems you missed this thread too: http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/jsr-wan ... 22750.html

Could give it a go on a smallish scale. What calibre options do you have?

Yes, I just couldnt imagine it in 6mm. However it makes more sense after seeing the other thread :P

Ouch, I haven`t ever precisely managed to remember my calibers.
I have the Golf ball hybrid - I think 42.8mm IIRC.
I have a mini pneumatic with a 5 and 6mm barrel.
And last I have the marble pneumatic, 16mm?

I have missed too much on this forum :( Really is a nice place to talk crap!(And spudding)

From 5-20-2011:

I had impressive results with a AA battery in a sabot for 2.5 inch.

Epoxy casting ≠ Using epoxy as adhesive ;)

That sounds about right. Give me an exact diameter and we'll talk :)

Umm.... I don't believe that's an APFSDS. Unless I'm "seeing" that design wrong, it's more along the lines of an APFSNS.

Something of interest:

It was originally designed with sniping as a primary role, but accuracy was so poor (10-shot groups of 6 to 8 feet at 600 yards were typical) that the project was soon abandoned.
Probably why something like the Steyr AMR hasn't really taken off yet, in spite of the impressive penetration figures.

 That round should be used in the M2 Browning, total devastation would be the results..
Guess wind is a problem if it gets a good hold on the fins as it will yaw the flechette slightly and change its direction..

Is that sabot solid? Looks strange but is probably necessary so they wont separate in the barrel.

However, measured the barrel today and its 16.1mm ID.

Ooops, had missed this

So, the design I am proposing is roughly the one below, let me know what you think. I would need the size of the nails you have available.
