Insulated wire for Stun Gun Igniton
High voltage wire is usually something you have to slavage from an old crt screen (tv, computer monitor, etc), or you have to order off the internet.
You could also make it: get regular copper wire (thicker the better) and then thread it though a peice of 1/4 vinyl irrigation tubing. and there you go cheap high voltage wire.

I personally think 12 gauge insulated stranded copper wire, (automotive wire), would be fine. Don't take my word for it, though, I've only coursed about 5,000 volts through it so far, not the 20,000+ volts a stungun produces.

Smallest I've seen was 20,000 volts. That's where I got that. Yes, I know they go WAY higher than that.frankrede wrote: I've only coursed about 5,000 volts through it so far, not the 20,000+ volts a stungun produces.

If you buy a stungun ignition from nick at www.spudshot.com , it comes with three feet of ignition wire free.
Persistence is a measure of faith in yourself
yeah don't touch the wire wire your running currnet cause (from personnel experience) the insulation will not prevent you from getting shocked. and by the way, the voltage stunguns advertise as there output voltage isn't the actuall votage, it would be almost impossible to fit something that would produce a 100,000 volts or more in a package the size of a stun gun. usually the actually voltage is probably abouta a 1/3 or 1/4 of the advertised voltage. (competly random and not important, just thought id add it)
I've had it work fine with standard speaker cable before.
You don't need any special wire. Just get standard copper stranded 18 ga wire.

yeah i had one, and none of the advertised volatges were the same as the same as the measured voltage. and like i said it also would be extremly hard to produc 100,000 volts from a package that small, mainly because of arcing problems.

If you really are worried I can sell you 250kV 32GA wire for 5 dollars a foot. It comes in Black and Red.
I do, it is a 1MV maximum, got it for 25 dollars.Someone have a voltage meter taht can measure that high to test teh actual voltage?

I have had good luck with doorbell wire, (a solid core of copper, not stranded, 16 gauge), for ignition. I wouldn't chance it with a stungun though.
You could always try jumper cable wire. That stuff is 10 gauge and is THICK!

would just some thick wires work ?
Generally the thickness of the actual wire is not the problem, just that the insulation on it is not 'thick' enough. So for example if your using any air hosing on your gun for any purpose, you could be sleek about it and also run your wire threw separate tubing. Some 1$/ foot air hose I found at ACE has like 1/4" thick rubber walls, so that is perfect for the situation. [A bit expensive once you consider that you can sometimes buy 25ft hoses at other hardware stores for ~10$ at the cheapest] I might add to run your wire in separate tubes, as running them in the same would allow them to arc before the ignition point.
