More accurate batteries

Are there any ways of getting a battery to fly straight and be accurate? I'm using AA batteries and a .5 inch barrel. Would the length of the battery make it fly straighter?

Attaching some sort of tail would help. Other than that, a different projectile is the answer.

What about putting a cone infront of the battery, would that make them fly straighter. With the cone, they would become more like bullets.

Notice that bullets fired out of guns that do not have rifled barrels are spheres. A cone and fin would work, but not worth the trouble.

i wouldn't bother with batteries, for each end is balanced its nearly certain to spin during its trajectory.

jump on ebay and buy some half in marbles, there cheap, i nearly bought a thousand the other day.

as for adding a tail, for it to be effective i think the tail has to be wider than the actual projectile, correct me if im wrong.

ive made rofled batteries before. just put a spiral pattern on the batt with duct tape and keep adding more untill it fits nicely.

I reccomend a length of foam about 2" long, glued to the end of the battery.
Such should move the COP about 1 inch behind the COM, making it plenty stable. (though, IIRC, you should be able to get away with about .65" of foam)

If I rifled the barrel would that help at all for the accuracy of the battery. I am trying to stay with batteries because my magazine is made foe the batteries and so is my gun.

A properly rifled barrel should stabilize it and make it more accurate.
I think, I'm not sure because I have no experience with rifled barrels.

Thanks for the info, I am just going to rifle the barrel and hope that that inceases the acurac and the stability of the battery.

Use only brand-name batteries, they fly better and further, just listen to their advertisements. Go to a remote control testing facility and ask for their dead batteries.
Also, if you use rechargeable batteries, they will come back and you can fire them again and again (up to 1000 times!). These are cheaper on eBay.

Well, it depends if you're an Energizer bunny or Duracell kind of guy. I'll bet the really expensive e^2 batteries go 3-4 times as far, but then again, nothing outlasts a Duracell.
It also depends on how much cash you have up front. If you have a bit extra, go for the rechargeable ones, you can reuse them time and again.

In reality, I think boilingleadbath's suggestions (as always) will be the easiest and most beneficial. ...short of rifling your barrel.
