i recently built a 3" coaxial and i have found that nail darts are pretty much insane, i made a few out of some corks but i don't have any left now. so i was wondering if any of you knew someplace where i could get a crap load of corks, or is there some easier much better material to use

Is there anything that can be substituted for a cork? what if you got a can of Great Stuff expanding foam and fill a one inch piece of pipe, say, a foot or two long. slather with vaseline or something so that you can get it out. Take out the stick of foam, cut it into smaller cork-sized pieces. stick nails through, and you're all set.
Or, you could go to a restaurant that serves wine, or more specifically champagne, since those corks fit one inch pipe while most are good in three quarter inch pipe. Just ask if they have any corks they can give you. kinda like getting schrader valves via flat inner tubes from a bike shop.
and if you want to use regular sized corks, which are a perfect fit in 3/4 inch pipe, you could insert a length of 3/4 inch pipe into your barrel (it fits snugly with no modification) and shoot regular sized corks.

Get bags of corks from wine/beer making supply shops. Cheapest place.

i made something similar to this.
i got a nail then hammered it through the holes in some lead fishing weights.
IOOO--->
I= big end of nail
O=weight
--->=nail and point
The weights come off after a few shots, but worth a try

just ran out of 3/4 pipe, and i don't remember it fitting in 1 inchand if you want to use regular sized corks, which are a perfect fit in 3/4 inch pipe, you could insert a length of 3/4 inch pipe into your barrel (it fits snugly with no modification) and shoot regular sized corks.

I have a 1" barrel and I tried to fit 3/4" pipe into it (it was a scrap of pvc I found lying around, could have been dwv but I'm not entirely sure. It was grey if that's any indicator.) The 3/4" pipe was just a teeny bit to large to fit into the one inch, so I decided to just give it a sanding. BAD IDEA. It took about 2 hours of mind dulling sanding to get it down to size (I could kill for a belt sander).

oh man I feel sorry for you I value my belt sander more than a lathe (if I had one) don't try if you don't got the tools,I have a 1" barrel and I tried to fit 3/4" pipe into it (it was a scrap of pvc I found lying around, could have been dwv but I'm not entirely sure. theres a ton of stuff you can put a nail on I just put nails on paper towel squares, they work fine but there is better stuff for the less lazy people

@ homedepotpro that idea seems flawed. even though you have picture it probably wouldnt work well. i have tried sticking a nail in wax and it shattered every where. but you might be doing it differently than im thinking you are.

i know a lot of hobby stores sell big and small bags of corks. and if you have mini launchers you can buy assorted corks in different sizes. and i for sure know (no i dont work here i got krylon fusion from here) that joann fabrics/craft store.
i find that darts with feathered tails have decent penitration and great accuracy.
i use a masonary nail, tape and old t-shirts or matirial cut into strips.
=---
= is the tail
-- is the nail
you nedd the tail lighter than the nose that is what keeps it from tumbling in its trajectory.
somhow i think that
