Adapting 0.22 airgun pellets for airsoft barrels

It's pretty self explanatory, a couple of light hammer taps on the drill bit and you've got a good fitting heavy projectile that will still fly head first out of a smoothbore barrel due to the shuttlecock shape. If you can find 0.25 pellets, they'll fit in a 6mm barrel without modification.

Why do you need the drillbit? Are you just drilling out the first inch or so of the barrel, or what?
And what about putting a little toilet paper behind the pellet? That would seal it pretty well, and be cheaper. Plus, it would likely fly faster since the gun doesn't have to accelerate two projectiles to such a high speed, just one...so it would fly faster.

You don't specifically need a drill bit, just a 6mm rod you can tap on the pellet's head with - and the BB doesn't actually stick to the pellet, it's just there to flare out the skirt of the pellet to match the inner diameter of the barrel.

Ok, so the BB doesn't even get fired, it's just there to help form the pellets base? That makes sense now. Although, I still think a simple sabot would be easier, like just a little wad of TP behind the pellet.
But, I have to admit that that is an innovative idea, and I commend you on your ingenuity.

@Jack, a suggestion for the ammo of your pump action amasing thing, would be take a 22 long cartridge and cut off the back, then fit a .22 pellet/bb in there. that should work.

This would be simpler, but since the pellet wouldn't be an exact fit in the barrel, it would tend to bounce around and fly out of the barrel erratically.

There's a slight problem with that idea in that the 22LR cartridge is rimmed and would therefore interfere with the feeding of my design. I had thought of using the same idea with spend 5.56x45mm NATO cartridges but i only have a couple of them so it wouldn't be worthwhile.

i was suggesting that you cut that off. could use a miter saw or something.

If i'm going to go through that effort, might as well make my own cartridges, though the idea would work with 12 gauge cartridges in a 3/4" barrel if you were to scale things up.

You as well  I really should keep my ideas to myself :P hehe

Though in all fairness that idea was suggested on spudtech months ago...

ah, well, it is the job of jesus to help people.

actually, ive known for a while that they could be used, but you provided the springboard for me.

ill be sure to give you credit when i come out with it. but if you make something, i will surely pale infront of it.

I'm actually not too bothered to be honest, I don't think much of people who guard their designs with almost religious fanaticism. I can understand why some would want to keep their creations inner workings secret for financial reasons where patents might be involved, but at the end of the day the point of these communities is to share knowledge for the common good - at the end of the day, no design is truly original, indeed mine works exactly like a direct blowback firearm where the explosive is replaced with air.

i agree completely. if you have a good idea, share it. unless you want to make a profit off it (like joel) everyone deserves to know.

depending on your religious views, the only original inventions were the whell and the "taming" of fire. hell, humans didnt even invent fire...
