Latest Apple Cannon

For the past 4-5 years, I've built some sort of potato/tennis ball/etc. launcher just as a goof. This year I decided to convert it to MAPP gas and make it handheld.

The finished product.

The concealed MAPP gas cylinder, pressure regulator, and threaded end for attaching the 2.5" 5' long PVC barrel.

Image

I'm old school, and load through the barrel with a ramrod. This apple fits almost perfectly.

Image

Rear view, with barrel attached. It's a stun gun ignition from Sean at Launch Potatoes - still working great after 4+ years!

I can't fix this DVD player. Maybe I can adjust it.

Dang, awesome looking cannon, only thing I can see changing is the long hose that goes from your MAPP tank to your meter, I'm not really sure if this affects your metering in anyway but it might be better if you shortened it.

I hope you removed the diode or w.e its called from the DVD player, I read you could make a high intensity lazer pointer with that.

Very nice looking hand held. The small apple graphic in the paint job is a nice touch. I'll have to remember to do that. Have you been able to test it's range yet?

Very nice looking cannon. I like the concealed electronics and fueling most of all.

My first cannons shot apples. Nice.

Now that's the way we adjust things around here... :P Welcome back!

LED,
and i think the one you want is only in a burner, i took one out of an old dvd player, it was clear not red.... i could see it with my phone (camera) but didn't burn anything

Do you have to have apples that fit the barrel, or can you use over-sized ones and just shove them in?

My apple cannon has a 2 inch barrel. Cut to fit is the norm and works well. Just fit flies better.

Looks a little heavy but otherwise nice looking and well put together. The only thing I would seriously replace is the drain plug rear end...that thing's going to blow out on you sooner or later. Until then, be sure everything is clear directly behind this cannon when firing it.

Yes - it's very heavy. The drain plug is one of the few that actually screws all the way in to full depth, and never gets stuck. What should I replace it with?

Around here, you can buy "snack apples" that are almost perfectly round, and fit quite tightly in the barrel without any cutting. I have a small slice of 2.5" PVC that I bring to the store for gauging.

Thanks. I don't have enough open space to really measure it - but it flung an 8 oz water bottle straight up in the air for 10.5 sec of hang time. It will make a tennis ball disappear out of sight. I like the large bore barrel - a tennis ball will make great wadding for other types of ammo. My dream is to shoot a cellphone through a laptop on high speed film. :P

Unfortunately, I did not take the laser out - that's the second one I trashed - and it WAS a DVD recorder. I have a rail ready for a laser sight, too.

How did you attach the electronics compartment to the chamber? I like the design, its very clean and stops the gas looking like an unwanted attachment.
