You can count to 1023 (+0) using binary, I'm not sure how to get to 1028.john bunsenburner wrote:My math teacher taught me how to count to 1028 on my fingers... Can any one guess how? (and yes i used only my fingers and yes i reach 1028 using my fingers jsut like you would normally make it to ten, jsut a little more complex)

1023 is pretty low for what can be done with counting on hands.clide wrote:You can count to 1023 (+0) using binary, I'm not sure how to get to 1028.
I once came up with a way to get past two and a half million, although not very easy to learn, and it's generally just more sensible to just count out loud.
Alternately, with a variation on the method, you can count to over 1,500 on each hand.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?
John... That is Perfect! it is just like my girlfriend! Hey speaking of which, for valentines day, I'm torn between silky pj's, an illustrated Kama sutra, or some nice smelling bath stuff ( me and other friend went speculative shopping today) what do you think?
And John, I was completely not insulting you back there! it was all my tech teacher! I wouldn't make fun of you, I actually quite value our discussions...

True, with the range of motion of the human hand there are a lot of ways to get to much higher numbers, but I was taking "using my fingers jsut like you would normally make it to ten" as meaning each finger only has two possible states and you can only use your fingers, not the positions of your hand.Ragnarok wrote:1023 is pretty low for what can be done with counting on hands.clide wrote:You can count to 1023 (+0) using binary, I'm not sure how to get to 1028.

I have however realised how I can make it past 42 million using a variation on the technique.

Jonny, all that would run me up about 150$, which no doubt she's worth, but I am looking to choose only one or maybe 2 of them
